How to take stock of your game?

Where does one go from here?

Throughout the 2009 season I was constantly shooting between 85 and 95 and feeling good about my game, bar the temperamental driver I knew a lower score was in me.

So I start the 2010 season with a new set of irons. First round with them in March I shot my personal best of 78, and to be honest it should have been a 75 or 76.

Since then my game has gone, 95-100 all the time, duffed wedges, putting like a steam train etc.

To sum it up I am brassed off and don’t know how to get the desire back after falling from grace so much! Haha

Tips? What drives you on?

Have a wee break over the winter and see how much you miss it!!
What drives me is the desire to get better and hopefully to single figures, I have had an intermittant year, won one comp and in the singles knockout finals, but most other golf has been average at best, with many more .1's than buffers or cuts.
I am looking forward to some time off, but also to getting back into it for next season too.
Good luck

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Rather than think about the 100+'s concentrate on the brilliant 78.

You know you can hit that low so all these high scores are just a blip on an otherwise great golfing career so far.

Take a lil break. Spend some time with the family and before long you'll be gagging for some golf time! :D

What drives me on is the desire to get to single figures i definately know its in there somewhere.Even when im playing poorly i know if i keep practicing and learning by playing with better players i will come out of my slump a better player.Going from mid 70s to 80s and 90s is tough but stick at it,really practice your short game and im sure your scores will tumble again, good luck.

Change your focus, forget (to an extent) about the score and set a new goal on the teebox - to hit greens in regulation, forget about whether or not you then 3 or 4 putt, you can work on that later when the greens get nice again.

When you've hit 15 GIR's in one round come back and post again! :D NB: On the fringe doesn't count!

NBB: To further focus your game you are NOT allowed to go for par 5's in two! Only proper regulation counts. You might be surprised just how well you start playing the par5's and don't waste so many shots.

Bloody hell, if that was the criteria for posting on here, you would be talking to yourself.

I couldn't have said it better myself. I know it's in there and since I stopped taking a million swing thoughts around with me it is even closer to a breakout round and cut. I've hit it, found it and repeated until it was in the hole and although in competitive play this season it has been up and down I feel a lot less stressed and can even find a crumb of comfort in (most) the bad rounds
