I don't think you've grasped the fact that if a 10.3 and a 10.2 tee off, the 10.2 would have to shoot one shot lower to win if exact handicaps were deducted from their gross.

But that is not the same as saying there is a whole shot difference. It would only apply in a tie. Is it better to say that a totally random non-meritocratic method will apply?

I think we have probably covered all the arguments now, so I won't repeat any of mine. New issues, sure.
 
Have I missed it or have we done the bit about the back nine not being the back nine because you started from the 10th?

For the benefit of the pedants, I know it is the back nine on the card, but it's another thing to consider and another factor that means I'd prefer a different method of determining a winner. Our board comps are determined by an 18 hole playoff, albeit wit the slight anomaly of the handicaps at the time of the competition being used in the playoff.
