How much would you expect to pay for a stroke saver/course guide?

For me it would really depend on the course I was playing

If it was a one off round type course then £10 ish

But like some have said in the £60+ bracket you sometimes get them included in the price

We have a box of cheapo pitch repairers in the locker room for people to help themselves to.
If it was down to me I would stick a couple of quid on the vistors green fee and give them a strokesaver and a few tees when they book in. As someone stated earlier, it is a nice gesture and they won't know you built it into the price.

I.e. that it was for the course you were actually intending to play rather than maybe another course you had gone to by mistake.

:whistle:

Out of interest how much are the stroke savers at Ballyliffin? ;)

:D

:rofl:

I have this image in my head now of Bob wandering the fairways of Murvagh with a Ballyliffin strokesaver scratching his head trying to figure out the yardages :confused:

Nothing would surprise me with the man ;)

To the OP, I agree that they should be free if you are paying full green fee but anywhere from £3 to £5 is what I expect to pay.

Usually around the £5 mark down this way. Lydd had the temerity to charge £2.50 for something that was hand drawn and photocopied. Should have seen the signs there and then on what was to follow. I tend to by strokesavers anyway as a momento

free - end of discussion. It should be included in the visitors green fee. Why courses charge x amount then expect another fiver for a few bits of printed paper is beyond me.

However, as its golf and everything is generally marked up to the max then I guess its par for the course really :)

I couldnt agree more! Want a polo shirt pay a fiver, want a polo shirt with Callaway, Taylormade or Ping etc on it thatll be £34.99 please.
Want a pair of plain black slacks, a couple of quid out of ASDA, want a pair with a wee unnoticeable swoosh or Adidas logo above the rear pocket thatll be £49.99 please.
Golf is an absolute rip off.

Very similar to the above, maybe a quid. you are paying an awful lot of money for a walk round a manicured field (in its simplest terms), the guide should be part of the price but then thats not how business and profit works.

I would expect about £5 max. Only ever bought one, that was from Worksop, although I have a skycaddie I bought a stroke saver because profits go to the juniors
Rob, it wasn't Workdop, but Bondhay, which is a cracking course. Cost £3, and it's pretty rubbish, but as you said, it went to the juniors' section. I bought one too!

I'd pay £5 for a strokesaver tops, unless it was an oustanding course.

If I was playing a relatively cheap course I wouldn't mind paying up to a fiver, but top courses where you pay big bucks they should be free.

i always buy markers at a new course so the most i would pay for a stroke saver would be £5.

i have a few sitting in the garage from irish courses and used them a few times so they have been worth the money.

they also make looking back through the round that much easier.

I don't think it would as the device being used would continue to have illegal apps such as temp and wind speed/direction. It is these that the rule-makers apparently object to.

It isn't illegal under the rules as you wouldn't be using any DMD features. The phone is only non-compliant if used as a DMD which it wouldn't be. Same as accessing the rules via the R&A offical app isn't a breach of the rules. You could also have you club yardages saved as a note or other displayable format on your phone and access that info if you wished.

Decision 14-3/16 basically covers it.

As provided in the Etiquette Section, players should ensure that any electronic device taken onto the course does not distract other players.

The use of an electronic device such as a mobile phone, hand-held computer, calculator, television or radio is not of itself a breach of Rule 14-3. For example, the following uses of an electronic device during a stipulated round are not a breach of the Rules:

Using the device for matters unrelated to golf (e.g. to call home);

Using the device to access information on advice-related matters that was produced prior to the start of the player's round (e.g. an electronic yardage book, swing tips);

Using the device to access (but not interpret or process) playing information from previous rounds (e.g. driving distances, individual club yardages, etc); or

Using the device to obtain information related to the competition being played (e.g. the leader board or projected "cut").

So with that information onboard, who would like to see a stroke saver app?
