Just curious and Aztecs post got me thinking , posted it here coz i didnt wana hijack Aztecs post .. HOW MANY BALLS WOULD YOU HIT IN THE AVERAGE RANGE SESSION ... only reason i ask is that in some posts in the forun people are talking 100's .. do ye go to the range with a focus & an aim or to just hit balls , when i go il warm up with 10/15 chips/wedges then work on specific parts of game on different sessions .. fade / draw / long iron / driver etc very seldom go through the whole bag of clubs or whole range of shots in 1 session .. id say 50-60 balls tops .. whats the feeling on this ??

I get 2 buckets of 60 (so 120 total :) ) and work on different aspects each visit. I dont practise wedges on the range now the weather is settled as I use the field opposite my house for this cos its free :)

I usually do 100 (x-large basket) but I pushed the boat out and did 120 last night.

I work through my clubs hitting 5 or 6 balls with each (unless things are really bad and I try to get a good swing back, in which case I'll hit more)...Then I'll use whatever's left to work on different wedge shots.

About 60 on the driving range but I'll happily spend a couple of hours 2 or 3 times a week working on my game on or around the practise green or hitting shots <100 yards on the practise ground.

50 - 100, but another question would be how long do you spend hitting them?

For me 50 = 50 mins to 1hr
100 = around 1hr 45mins

Either a normal bucket of 50 or large bucket of 100, mostly the latter, it just depends on what I'm doing. I've not been for a while really, I try to use the practice range at the course ad it's off grass, although not a fan of picking the balls up after, especially as I'm a bit erratic!

Last time was 120 balls in about twenty minutes - hit them like a machine on automated tees, all drivers then got bored wondered why the hell i was there and what the point was and went home.
Bratty - a minute a ball??, you'd have thought it would have paid off by now.........

Depends on what i feel like, how i'm hitting it and how much time i have. Anything from 20 to a couple hundred in a typical session. Any more than 5 hours and i start getting too tired. With the changes i'm making at the moment i'm doing a lot of practice rehearsals, so not hitting as many balls.

50 - 5 x 10 with a different club and chart each one Good, Quality Miss or Bad so I can track progress accordingly.

Four times a week during the winter and around once a week during the season when I'm playing five rounds a week at the very least.

I tend not to go very often now as time is scarce and I'd rather enjoy a round when I get chance.

I did find however that I was hitting less and less balls, as I think that after 30-40 balls you start to lose touch with what you are doing because your muscles get loose or tired in a way that you can't replicate when on the course.

Depends what clubs I'm practicing with!

If it's wedges then I cope with a longer session and more balls.

If lower irons then I get tired quite quickly.

Generally, I'll go for:

50 balls if I'm loosening up or really short of time

100 balls normally

150 balls if I have a lot of time or if I'm focussing on wedges

Anything more than 100 and generally it's a bit of a marathon and not productive. Like others have said, better to think of it in terms of time.

I hardly go any more, but when I do I only have 50 balls and get bored before the end of them.

Normally takes 20-30 minutes.
