I don't think we were closed once last year or so far this year.

We are on a winter course that is much shorter and 4 par fours are down to par 3's, that course has its own card and its 5 shots easier than the summer championship course.

If it was it would be from snow or high tides, but we have had the sping tide and thats the main time we get any flooding, which is mid Dec.

Never shuts even if there is a foot of snow on the ground you turn with some money to play then you will get a game at the expense of the long term quality of the course. It was a real mudbath the other week and should never have been open for play

Open all year around apart from when we're unlucky enough to have snow. Had 3 one week periods where we had 1 temp green in that week due to a new drainage system going into the 3 worst draining greens :D

I've gone for two, both for cyclone activity (not really the course itself, more that the water taxi is prohibited from making the 10 minute crossing from the main island)

We closed for 2 days ish when it was really bad a few weeks back but now open again and fully functional on normal greens and tees. Trolley ban in place which is sensible to protect it but buggies on the paths is ok. Ive played 3 times in the last week and I cant complain as playing quite well myself for a change! ... ;) the greens are superb and its ok underfoot. This is when I get my moneys worth this time of year for sure! :)

11th day today, not surprising with clay being the main soil. Other days it's been open with holes 9-12 closed which is the wettest part of the course.

First post - so be kind!

Our course hasn't been closed at all but it's very muddy in places. We now have a Buggy and Electric Trolley ban in place at the moment.

How many days has your course been closed this season, taking a typical season so far as April 2013 to March 2014 (current day).

What's your story?

Bit of a silly poll. You ask how many days a course has been closed throught the year from April to March and we are still in January. Most courses that close due to the weather will be closed because of frost and/or snow, and most of that comes in January to March.
Incidentally, our course never closes.

2 days full closure, but down to 9 a few times, suffered really badly with the biblical rain we had just before xmas, completely flooded 2 holes. all back to normal now which is testament to the greens staff. We have 1 hole on a temp green, there are plans to get this sorted longer term, but the nature of where the green is (bottom of a valley, shaded, in amongst some huge trees) its taken some thinking and planning!

My place was closed for a couple of days to protect it - but we haven't had full course for nearly a couple of weeks due to flooding. The flooding is not really a problem with the course itself -the problem is drainage off the course - a neighbour who won't do work or let us do work on his land that would allow water to drain away. As a result we get water backing up and that back-floods across the course. As this has happened to lesser extents the last few years I think we are going to have to do something on the course ourselves - though working out what to do isn't that easy.

Were clay based, but as I said in my opening post, what they have done over the last couple of years that I've seen, is, run ditches away from known areas that used to fill with water and hang around, this has been a huge success to date, were carry only today but still playing full greens.

There's always 1

Been closed for a couple of full days due to flooding and only had the front nine open for the remainder. Not ideal and in a way I'm not fussed as I'm busy getting reacquainted with the short game. Need to hit some balls with a full swing to keep that ticking over but might take it all out on Saturday or Sunday for a quick nine as I doubt we'll be full open

We're pretty flat Robin apart from 13 -18 .
Remember Chris pointing out where the drainage work had been at your place, could be something to ask about at ours.

They've been trialling a new way to help the greens that struggled in the past this year also, its the same as they do at our Coventry Cricket Club and looks like its drilling for oil but is some kind of huge vertical drainage system which just leaves a small round footprint of around 12-18" which soon disappears. Again, its been a huge success to date and the rain last night was relentless and I played on full greens this morning from 10am!

Is that the 7th I think the one down the hill, ditch two thirds off the way to the hole. Lovely hole but very damp when I played :D

View from in front of our 14th Green to 17th hole - water unable to drain off far side of 17th so backs up and floods - and floods around 18th tee :(

Fortunately this drains quickly once rain has stopped (sandy sub-soil) - but rain isn't stopping for long at the moment
