Very weird round today.
Only scored on 10 holes, so thats 8 (eight) yes EIGHT Blobs, for 24 points,
But every hole I scored on was either a par for 3 points , or a bogey for 2, No 1 pointers at all, so I was playing very well on the holes I scored on.

If I had carried on my average of 2.4 points per score hole, I would have been looking at 43 points

The culprit today was wild driving, lost count of the number of times I had to play 3 off the tee.

I feel that I am on the cusp of a really good score, but am so inconsistent at the moment that it is just out of reach.

Think I need a driving lesson

Anyone else had problems with a large number of Blobs and how did you overcome it?

I have at least 4 blobs a round. Similar to yourself in your example today, in that if I score, it's usually a bogey for 2 or a par/birdie for 3/4. I would probably overcome it if I hit a lot more irons off the tee, but the showman in me wants to have a wonder-round off of 23hcp, play to 10 over and have everyone who hasn't played a round with me call me a bandit.

When people say I need to work on my course management, I get my back up. I know what the play is, of course it's a 5 iron on our 7th hole, plop it left of the tree in the fairway, pitch on, 2 putt par; but I can knock it on with driver and make an eagle nett albatross. Now who doesn't want to do that?

I'm aware that possibly doesn't help much. If it's always 3 off the tee causing your blobs, then it's either lots of work on driver, or club selection on the holes you're losing balls so that a wayward shot doesn't mean a lost ball.

Can relate to that. Saturday, Captains Day, blobbed first 2 holes, picked up a point on the 3rd. Then played like a demon and ended up with another 37 points for 38 total and even then felt like I'd left a couple of shots out there. Keeping the ball in play is key, so if driver is resulting in 3 of the tee, put it away or bring it back when the confidence is high during the round.

I used to break the round down to front nine back nine, but now work of every 3 holes. So problems on the first, I use the 2nd & third to work out what's wrong or find a swing. I'd prefer not to have any problems of course!

If you're often 3 off the tee you first need to find a way to get it in play. That's maybe a driver lesson, or a 3 wood but possibly just slowing down and not trying to hit it as hard.

Once you can find the fairway consistently, the way to avoid blobs is to make sure you don't compound any mistakes. So if you get out of position don't take on any daft miracle shots that bring double into play. Play a conservative recovery shot that might still give a chance of a chip and putt for par instead of a high risk attempt to hit the green.

Young Phil, I can beat that, I had 10 blobs the other day and also managed 24 pts, like you can not figure it out mate.

ask your younger brother.......

Honestly, I've never seen anyone so inconsistently inconsistent....
Some holes were played really well, others like his Father in Law who's Society handicap is in the 50's.....

Off the tee it's so easy to bash at it like your on the range.

I find my bad shots off the tee come when I don't pick a target and don't go through my routine.

Most often I do the above when I am playing well. With an iron in hand a bad shot from a poor routine is far less destructive than a driver or wood.

Even worse is when I forget the routine but still hit a good shot, down totally the wrong line. If I had just taken a second to line up properly I would have been fine.

Your game today sounds like my recent form,it's a par or nothing to make it worse it's par on holes with no shot so only bloody two points.
like you my driving is putting me in trouble time after time....
its golf my form comes as fast as it goes.

Sounds familiar. Some good holes that make you think you're a golfer and then blasting shots into knee high rubbish to never been seen again. I can roll putts on a couple of greens then it's like a venomous snake in my hand and simply no feel. Off for nine tonight after yesterday's lesson. It'll either be that post lesson hallelujah moment or I'll be flogging my gear about half time in the footie tonight

I was on about this on Tuesday. Four times I put my ball into the naughty stuff, trees etc. Four times I never had a back swing and could only knock it 10 ft for the next shot. That equated to 4 blobs. A pp ended up four foot further on one hole and put his next shot on the green. Another playing partner got 23 points ( 1 blob) and a shed loads of 1's. Fine margins phil, fine margins

Some of those margins weren't very fine......😕
