How long long do your shoes last ?

dave, try and find a stockiest with fj sports in a 12. they are honestly the most comfy shoes ive ever worn, and the new 2012 version with boa laces comes up half a size bigger. im a 10 in trainers, purcahsed a 10 in fj sports and they were spot on out the box, but the new boa spec ive had to order a 9.5 ;)

Cheers mate,

Will have a goosey at them.

I have a pair of Nike's which I have used for about 8 years. The spikes are almost useless and my feet get damp, time to replace I think.

Has anyone tried these before - http://www.americangolf.co.uk/product/Puma-Golf-Ace-Golf-Shoes/p81057.aspx

r is it worth forking out a little extra to get the Jiggs? http://trendygolf.com/product/puma-golf-jigg-blackwhiteyellow-springsummer-12

I might try and see if American golf will price match. Found the jigg for £59 and the ace for £49 here .....

Got the jiggs and they look the beans... not usually a fan of black shoes as they are a bit plain for my taste, but these are great. Really comfy and very very stable.. the quill spikes are great. Not tried the Aces, so can't really compare I'm afraid.

i put new soft spikes in my footjoys just yesterday. ive had them 4 years and there was no rubber left on the old spikes. had toyed with the idea of new ones but they cleaned up alright. seeing those sambas have made me want a pair for the nice summer evenings and wear the old ones when its not so nice.

I have 4 pairs from 4yrs old to new. Oh and a 15yr old pair of those Adidas waterproof ones with the flap on the front. Still use them every now and then when its very muddy. Must have had six sets of spikes in them. Don't like to throw anything away.

Cheers Monty, BT. Don't suppose you know if AG will price match, even if EG has not got the size you want? I'm after an eleven.

My local AG no only price matched but beat the price on my new FJ Sports. they were 120rrp, shop price of 100 at silvermere, they thought it would be a nice thing to do to offer me them at 90... spot on.

are golf shoes with the old metal spikes not banned?

The terms of their price match offer it says the item must be in stock. I went upto my local and they didn't have any puma in stock anyway apart from the mega expensive ones.

I tend to work on 2 seasons whether that be summer or winter. I may keep a pair for a 3rd season but only to wear if it's really muddy underfoot (assuming they're still keeping water out). So I guess that means 12 months a pair as I have a summer/winter pair. Doesn't seem a lot but I play a lot of golf. When I ran I kept a strict log of miles per pair of runners and at 500m they went in the bin even if they looked good still as I look after my shoes so they can still look good when in fact they're worn out. It is more important when running due to the impact but I have fragile feet (and hands - ahhhhh) so don't like to risk it if cushioning/stability has been compromised.

I run a fair bit too, and used to knock about on the Runners World forum, where that 500 miles per pair figure was always bandied about. I always suspected it was a genius bit of marketing by the shoe companies.

Do a bit of minimalist/barefoot now so don't have to worrying about the cushioning going! :D

Golf shoes should last a good few years if you look after them, but I do think that the modern ultra comfy ones, that don't need breaking in, tend to be softer by nature and give out easier.

Back in the day, a pair of FJs would be agony for a few weeks, but then when you'd broken them in, you'd get 4 years out of 'em.

I was also a bit of a cynic about the 500m but being injury-prone I just didn't like to risk it. When I see people walking in shoes which have collapsed inwards it makes me cringe thinking what they're doing to themselves.

Barefoot running - that just scares me at the thought of it unless it's in a pool !

After just doing my achilles, my old running shoes went straight in the bin and I bought 2 new pairs, one for road and one for trail running, the difference is amazing

I've got 9 pairs. Some are 10 years old, but don't get worn much, some are newer and battered. I play alot, sometimes 6 times a week, so my shoes get a pounding. The ones I wear most are the ones that live in the car. If I get 18 months out of them I'm happy.

Bit like Murph except I'm up to 15 pairs. Several pairs are 10+ years old and still perfectly functional. 4 or 5 pairs are coming up to 5 years too. I play a lot of golf and practice shed loads and have my favourite pairs but they all get a good number of rounds per year and I've not had any problems with any FJ's splitting or leaking. I'm a firm believer in looking after them properly and by doing so you'll get the maximum life out of them
