How long does it take you to adapt to swing changes?

I'm currently working on a relatively small swing change, which is helping me neutralise my swing from around 9 degrees from the inside, along with making it more efficient!

Working on removing my overswing/excess wrist hinge and not going past parallel at the top of the backswing. After a couple hundred balls, the swing still feels completely alien, strike is all over the place and confidence is at an all time low.

Here is a Before/After:

With how much I'm struggling with this relatively small change, whats the biggest change you've made? How long has it taken for it to feel natural? And how have you kept your confidence up whilst making the transition?

Call me crazy but minus the over swing I think the first one is better.

Second looks to have moved into a reverse pivot.

Tiger woods said a small grip change needs at least 800 balls to even begin to feel normal

Rob rock told me if you try something new and it doesn't start to work within 10 balls then then try something else.

So two completely different answers!!!!!

I made a grip change some time ago on a pro's advice from very strong to neutral, and that took me 3 months of weekly games and regular practice to start hitting fairways again on a regular basis... Got to be the worst thing to change for me, to take the only contact with the club and change that messes with your head a bit.

The first position with the body is good but the overswing is also across the line, the shaft position on the 2nd is much better but not the body position, marry the 2 good positions from each swing and I don't think it will take you long to get used to it.

Biggest change I've ever made is, without doubt, swing path.

All in all its taken best part of a year and thousands of balls on the range to do it.

I'm, quite literally, just back from a lesson whee I'm now consistently starting the ball 5 yards right of target and getting a consistent curve back.

I'm in a position now where I know where my miss is. .... Which helps.

any changes (if they work) should only take a couple hundred balls or a couple of days to feel 'natural' imo

I'm not sure if it's a positive that i'm not the only one thats gone through the process and is struggling. Or a negative that it's going to be a long road!

And Gareth I do have to agree, I've done grip changes. and they've only taken a few hundred balls to feel natural. You can check before you swing and just go at it normally, adapting to where the ball is going. With this swing length and path, using the GC2 and Slow mo video. My body isn't doing what I "feel" or think it is, and it's incredibly unnerving.

That's not a big overswing...............Who said the club needs to be set parallel at the top. It might look good, but it's total bull in my opinion.

Perhaps I should've posted separately in the "Ask the experts" section. With the overswing I could generate alot of power. But my bad shot was a Tree finding hook, It was so off plane, making me swing so much from the inside. With this new swing, my bad shots "should" be alot less punishing. Despite really struggling to make any form of decent contact with the ball, I can already see that. With this feel I could go to the first tee without warming up and not have to worry if I'm going to hook it.

What drills did your pro give you to stop the over swing?
I don't feel like I over swing but my PP often comment that I do.

I always try and have 2-3 range sessions after a lesson to make the changes feel natural and work on any drills I've been given. Even then I never go out with too many expectations first time out but try hard to stick to what I've been shown even if it isn't gelling straight away

I wouldn't say that is a small swing change don't know what drills you've been given? so it might be best to ignore the next bit :)

I would try and feel that your just swinging back to say your arms at 10oclock video it and see what that looks like If your like me you'll be suprised at how much longer your swing is than you feel, I find a lot of mirror work without a ball and then when hitting balls really exaggerate and lots of video to check

I meant to say when I'm making changes at the range I try not to worry about where the balls going just concentrate on the move, 5 weeks it took me to shorten my b/s not need to think about it and be totally confident in it but you look like your coming from a better starting position than me
