No it wouldnt be a better question because it them makes a complete mockery of the entire comparison.
Tiger hit his 7I with a slight tailwaind, which makes a big difference to yardages, in order for the comparison to stand that is why i said slight tailwind also.
I would say that 99.9% of people on here know exactly what a "slight tailwind" is and only those who are extremely pedantic will question it
Normally about the 130-140yd mark when hitting well. 28 handicap.
It's all very well how far we each hit the ball but how far compared to handicap would be interesting. I read an article a few months back whena tour coach said 28 handicappers should hit 190 yard drives. So 7 iron 130 not too bad in comparison. Normally drive 200-220. 3 wood goes the same though off the tee.
In calm condition 165 on the fly, give or take 2-3 yds for strike quality.
I reckon 200+ on hardish ground with a tail wind. 20yds extra in the air and 20 yds run.
If I really let fly, it could go further but anywhere
Irrelevant. Its not how far you hit a club but how accurately. No good hitting it 170 yards and missing the green 10 yards left or right. I've never subscribed to hitting a club xx yards. Its whats best for each shot at the time.
If there was a light tail wind and i wanted to hit the ball 150 yards, I would take a 7 iron on the course. Normally a steady 6 iron. Although i have just today bought some Ping G10's so my yardages are a bit messed up now.
Are we talking "on the fly" here or total distance????
I hit a 7 iron yesterday out of the rough, slight wind behind, 175 yards, but about 25 yards of that was run as it bounced in front of the green and ran to the back.
I can't believe that somebody could hit a 7 iron 200 yards "on the fly"...when the average drive is about 230-240 yards, maybe 260 "with run"....
