And that outcome can be changed by factors of pure chance outside the influence of a person

to the event of a moving golf ball there's always range of possible outcomes some of which will have more probability of happening or less

Isn't bad/good 'luck' just a lazy term because we cant be bothered (or don't care enough) to work out the element of 'chance' or probability

Probability has a value that can be determined, using the term luck simply dismisses the value of probability or chance

My ball is never the one sitting up like a dogs wotsit in the semi.... I'll either be in the old divot, sitting on the only bare lie within a 10 yard radius or have a minge of grass sitting right behind the ball.
My ball will never be the one sitting under the tree with a nice, clear line of sight and plenty of room to swing. It will be the one right up against the trunk or sitting in the "v" of the exposed roots requiring either a wrist breaking jab back into play, or a drop.
My ball will never be the one sitting nicely in the bunker on an upslope. It will be the one either right under the front lip or the one sitting on the downslope close enough to the back edge where you have to pick the club straight up to avoid a penalty.
My ball will never hit a tree trunk and bounce back out onto the fairway like my playing partners. Mine will hit the tree in exactly the same spot but will shoot off at twice the speed and go 90 degrees OOB.
I'm beginning to notice a trend...

Yeah you've a powerful mind but you're not using it properly

You expect a bad result/luck and get it, that's real power. You just need to believe you'll get a good lie etc and it'll happen

I prefer to believe I'm going to get a bad one.
I find I'm less disappointed that way.....

This thread is just further confirmation of something I see all the time - you only remember and mostly discuss your bad luck.

Some courses are way unluckier than others....... I can play at my brothers, hit a great drive down the centre, only to see it catch an odd bounce or a tree root and fly 90 degrees sideways into the trees. This happens on multiple holes at his gaff, very uneven surfaces and tree roots everywhere.

When i started back in golf. A pal said to me " its not how good your good shots are, its how good your bad shots are. "

Over time i have come to understand what he means.

I think I am lucky and it always helps my scores

I look at things that they could have been worse, so generally see everything in a 'better' light.

For instance a bad bounce could have been far worse, so that was lucky wasn't it

What is this luck thing? A ball bounces of a lump into thick cabbage is a bounce off a lump into cabbage. Nowt to do with luck, it's just a bounce... I don't waste time or energy with woe, woe, woe is me. Just get on with the next shot and forget distractions.
