How does England Golf use the supplied date of Birth?

In adding a new member to the handicap system, I wanted to ensure that he did not have an existing record. I thought that I would be able to do an advanced search using the name and date of birth, unfortunately that option does not exist. Does the dotgolf system do a check behind the scenes when creating a new record? If not then what was the point of collecting all of that data? I'm confused again :-(

You can't " friend" someone on the EG site if they're under 18
You can find then via the search though.
My mate can't "friend" his 16 year old son.

I've not tested it, but would expect the system checks for duplicate name, date of birth and email address when creating a new member since that is what we were told these details were necessary for.

Additionally, as imurg has said, dob is used in the background for safeguarding on the social media side of things.

I wish it did - when you load a new player it gives a list of similar names only. Suspect the email. DoB and club didn't get stored and transferred to WHS.

I'm sure that information is there. I can see it on the whsplatform on England golf for players at my club, my issue is I cannot search for everyone with the same name and D.o.B as the person I'm about to set up with a new record. It would be nice to get confirmation that the system is doing that for us!

I would expect that for GDPR and general privacy reasons, personal details will be hidden from the search results and, while accessing the system as a club admin, you should only ever be able to view the details of the members you manage.

The important thing is what happens when you attempt to create a new member with a duplicate DoB & email address.

That'd be a GDPR issue I imagine.

I'm sure they use it for their analysis on numbers playing, but surely from your own clubs point of view you want that info too?

I can't guarantee it but I don't think it would stop any duplicate being generated. When you see the list of similar names that are from old records with no details of previous club yet alone DoB.

You can see the previous club by doing a standard member search (i.e. not from within the create new member process).
You can also search all records by email address (click "show more search criteria", and then select all clubs, current and resigned members).

I do not have access to the database but wonder if a club does. In that way they can check a players age when it is a condition for a comp.
