Weather steadily improved, 17C as we finished. Game was a bit all over but enough decent stuff to have me wanting more. Course was in pretty decent nick all things considered. Roll on Friday.

Approx 9 over gross.
Well pleased new driver shaft and new irons in the bag and add in the fact that the greens had been hollow tined and sanded last week and were as slow and bumpy as anything.

I was asked if I was going to do a General Play card and wish I had.

32 points on greens running slower than the Suez canal. Hit the ball pretty good but duffed the odd chip.

So good to be back playing

Practise for me. Five baskets, chipping and putting. Role on tomorrow.

The place was rammed, course and driving range, but it was nice to see so many acquaintances and wish them a happy new year.

Well my first two tee shots were blasted into the Wyre estuary, particularly impressive given the 40mph crosswind coming from that direction.

I had a 4 ball out about 20 mins after me so after those two tee shots I just used it as a practice round - Hitting another ball if it was a bad shot and using my long irons off the tee where I'd normally hit driver.

Hated the first 5 holes which were all into or across the wind. But then managed to birdie the 6th and settle into a bit of a rhythm after that.

Driver went well, irons were so so but improved by the end, wedges were playing lovely by the back nine and my putting was the same.

Course was very wet, but not muddy. Cant wait to get back out tomorrow as the weather looks incredible.

Sun shining , shorts on and good to go. First drive , lost in trees on left , dunked another one in water later on, duffed some chips , missed some puts holes 2 birdie putts, had a row with elders of the club who had gathered after their round to socialise at the half way hut, yup just a normal day at the office (row with elders not normal but shish!!)

Got a full 18 in, first tee shot was good, shame about the 3 putt that followed. Only lost 2 balls and had 2 blobs. All in all happy, nice to be back, do it all again tomorrow ?

I was so excited I made a video. Steady enough and nowhere near as weird as going back after the first lockdown. I still can't chip which was the least surprise of the morning and one playing partner sanitised his hands at the halfway house with his glove still on! All in all it was amazing

Great vid Mark, lots of good swings in there.. Are you in the orange hat? I feel your pain with the chipping, I've had that one over the bunker a few times this season. Thinned it, chunked it, never caught it perfect. You'd think law of averages would at least let me nip one nicely off the turf.

Playing tomorrow , new course, new greens, new driver and 3w shaft, and a new putter!

If I walk off with 25 points after playing only twice last year I won’t be unhappy. Due to be 20*

As if getting out for 18 holes of golf and banter with the lads wasn’t already fantastic enough... I get home and the Mrs says “fish & chips for supper, my treat” That’s not a cod it’s a shark ? (and yes that’s her mug in the background, much easier to agree ?) 167ECA57-CCE0-47F2-ABCE-C6CAAADEBB15.jpeg

Great to be back out saw my usual playing pal for the first time since Dec so that was fun. I played awfully, but did manage to get some good/great shots in which instantly turned the endorphin tap. Got another tee booked for Friday.

FYI - I tracked the calorie burn for the round and did 928 calories! Some people don't care, but the fitness geek in me does.

did you only play 9 holes? MyFitnessPal registers 1800 if carrying for 18 or 1400-1500 if pulling a trolley

Moments of brilliance surrounded by acres of despondency......
A sandy par from eight plugged in the face of the bunker 10 feet below the surface of the green and a chip in birdie on SI 1 were the only real highlights
Didn't have enough light to play 17 or 18 and I didn't lose any balls.
And it really can only get better.
