Hot rock cooking.....

Did it on hols in Spain years ago. Really good until my nephew, aged 5 ish wondered how hot it was, and burned his finger.
He is now 6ft 4, and is an amateur boxer. I am not going to remind him of this.

Not quite the same but... When we've been fishing and landed a surplus of mackerel... We find the best looking rock on the local beach give it a bit of a scrub down... Gut the fish lay it down and fire up the blow torch... Blast fish for a minute or so flip it over blast the other side and serve with a sharp salad and cold beers... Happy days :):)... Proper bloke food (y)(y)...

In France it's called "pierrade". Not sure what Smiffy's technique is (cos those look like largeish bits of meat) but basically you shove a slab of granite in a hot oven for an hour or two. Till its really hot. Then bring it to the table on a suitable stand (if you value the varnish on your table that is). You serve thin slices of uncooked meat or fish to diners - who slap a piece on the hot rock, let it sizzle a bit (ie untill cooked to taste), then eat. You need a decent thick piece of rock else it loses heat too quickly.

They were just a couple of 12oz fillet steaks. Hot rock in the oven for an hour and whack your steak/prawns/veg on there and cook it how you want. It's the best way to cook a steak, believe me.
I just get the whole fillet on there, sear it and then cut thick slices off and cook med rare. Cushty

Had it in Germany in the Mosel Valley years ago, the meats were a sort of mixed grill.

Might try that ...

We tried this for the very first time in a beautiful little restaurant in Portugal many years ago when me and my then wife were on holiday. I like my Fillet steak rare, anything over and it’s ruined. I’ve never found anywhere in the uk who have this on their menu.

A village pub near where I live has done that for quite a few years. Went there a few times but the novelty seemed to wear off.

my parents have one - works great if you just sear the steaks in the pan (so it's still raw), then slice up and everyone can cook fairly thin slices at the table how they like it
