Playing today in the fiddle (stableford) and one of the other groups had a hole in one on a par 3. The player had a shot on the hole.

The group scoring gave him 4 points after a conversation in the bar a few weeks ago that you can't score 0 for a hole (net). This seemed to be accepted by everyone but I think he should have had 5 points. I didn't bother raising it as it had no impact on the result and it wasn't worth an argument/take away from his hole in one.

Looking at rule 32-1b I still work it out as 5 points. E.g. 3 under fixed score. Have I interpreted this correct and if so has anyone come across this before?

There is no prohibition on the medal or stableford score you can have.

It is clearly and indisputably 5 points. A 28 handicapper could have a hole in 1 on a 2 shot par 4 and they would core a nett -1 for 7 points.

I was thinking exactly what Ethan said, I cannot see why you should loose your shots just because you had a good score.

Maybe wrong though

I've had a birdie on a 2 shot hole ( once and it was a fluke) and that was worth 5 points, so yes a hole in one on a par 3 with a shot is a 5 pointer

I'm rarely surprised at the daft things that a bunch of otherwise sane and sensible folk can come up with. It must be something in the special Golf Club asphalt or Coffee! This is one of the daftest ones though!

Of course it's 5 points! Numpties!

I mentioned in another thread recently that one of our 27-handicappers had a 2 for 0 for 7 points on a par 5 and, 3 holes later, had a 2 for 1 for 5 points on a par 4.

Similar happened once in a match played as a 4BBB Stableford. Par 3 SI 5 first hole, we managed par for 3 points...nice start until our opponenets rattled in a 2 (off 26) for nett zero and 5 points. Seems strange anyone would think that if you play the hole one shot better than a 4 pointer it would count as .....er....4 points???

Nice going. PP in a society day eagled a 2 shot hole ( par 5) for ton of points. 6 i think

I also mentioned that the same player, one week later, racked up a 23 on one hole in a medal.

You have to admire his honesty in saying he shot 23, glad he could remember. It asks the question though should he of picked up and just put down for a lower score to keep the game going? If not holding anyone up then why not keep goin. Like I say you have to admire his honesty. When I first started playing again I played with a guy/pal from your place in a fourball at Retford. He shot 2 x 13,s on the first two par fives. He then said I can't believe I started with two 8,s. No neither could we.
no one plays with him now.

In a medal you either plough on to 23 or whatever or N/R, depending on your bottle. He came up smiling and knew the score.

It is the days when you shoot the unbelievable scores, shots, rounds that get you through the dark days of woeful scores, shots and rounds.

the good with the bad I believe.
