You learn something new everyday.

Back to the original title of this thread. Yes indeed. I, too, have just learned something new.

After getting a quiz question wrong, the thing I have just learmed is that the status of growing things overhanging out beyond a no play zone (NPZ) depends on the type of NPZ.

If a NPZ has been defined as a penalty area (where the edges extend above and below the ground), any part of a growing object that extends beyond the edges of the NPZ is not part of the NPZ. However, if a NPZ has been defined as ground under repair (which includes all ground inside the defined area and anything growing that extends above the ground and outside the edges), anything overhanging the edge is part of the NPZ. (Clarification No Play Zone/1)

This distinction is important to know if your ball is just outside the NPZ but your stance or area of intended swing is impacted by vegetation rooted inside, but overhanging outside, the NPZ.

Stood on the 14th tee at Dewsbury on Sunday, 4 ball betterball family comp so I was paired with the youth, and we were playing with the junior captain and his Grandad - who was last to tee off.

The 14th is Dewsburys signature hole with an elevated tee overlooking a tiered fairway - one where you really can try and open the shoulders. So Colin attempts to play his shot, clips the ball with the heel of the club and the ball rolls off the tee back towards his feet, no more than 18 inches. He then picks the ball up and places it back on the tee without thinking, when his Grandson and playing partner points out that he had to play it as it lies. Colin think's he's now out of the hole in a scoring sense so says to his pp that it's down to him to score. My lad than says "I'm sure you can re-tee without penalty it if it's still in the teeing area", myself and Colin were both doubtful...."never heard that before" was the consensus.

Anyway, I checked and you can. I'd imagine loads of people already knew this, but must admit, I didn't so posting it for those that weren't aware. (y)
LOL, welcome to January 1st, 2019. :)

I have received additional RB guidance that can be helpful in a scenario of NPZ (PA) entirely within a penalty area - that NPZ edge also should be treated the same - extend vertically above and below the ground. I was seeking to clarify player free relief/interference situations in this scenario which also included some vegetation.
