Homer and I played our Volvo 1st round tonight at RAGC. We played a pair from Calcot Park off of 10 & 11 so not many shots given.

In stark contrast to our usual betterball efforts, we both turned up with our A games and if truth be told handed out a great big can of whoop arse!

Not that it was looking that way after 7 holes. Homer par'd the first three holes while I was finding a bit of rythm and then I kicked in and parred the next three before bogeying the 7th and we stood 1 over gross on the 8th tee. Only problem was so did our Oppos and we were all square having halved the first 7 holes. The deadlock was broken by Homer's birdie on 8 and we both had short par putts on 9 but Homer knocked his in from 4 feet so my 2 footer wasn't needed. Homer's par on 10 followed by further pars from me on 11 & 12 saw us four up playing 13. We got out of jail on 13 with a half in bogey before I parred 14 to take us dormie. Our birdie putts on 15 were conceded and we ran out 5&3 winners.

To be fair to our opponents who were a great pair, they struggled with our slow greens but then so did we and if I'm gonna be brutally honest, I don't think anyone would have beaten us tonight - we were 1 over gross through 15 and both playing beautifully.

Chuffed to bits with our performance- bring on round 2 :D

Homer's glass is running over. Played so solid. Miracle par at the first from somewhere so far right I'm not sure it was on any planner. Birdie at 8 was good but the pitch having had to chip out of the rough at 9 from 74 yards to 4 feet was sublime.

We gelled as a pair superbly and I've got a game back

Great effort to not lose a single hole.

I think I'd have made you putt out your birdies, however much of a gimme they were. If anything, it's a nice feeling to hole the winning putt.
