Hi all, i was wondering if you could give me some advice on irons for high handicappers?

Im currently playing with Ping G2's (bought from eBay for around £150...no idea wether they are legit or not) and the feel a little dead, every on perfect shots.

Should be getting a little bit of cash soon, and was looking at the custom fit route. I have been looking at Ping K-15's or Mizuno JPX-800's.

Has anyone had any experience of these irons or could offer any other suggestions?
Thanks!

There are a myriad of choices out there and not just those two. TM Burners, Cally, and some others like MD and Benross who don't advertise but produce some decent clobber at very good prices. My advice would be to try as many clubs as you can and try and narrow it down from there before deciding which to choose and get fitted for

I'm off for a fitting at the Mizuno centre soon, and looking through their site, they recommend the JPX-800HD as their most forgiving EVER club.

Might be worth having a look at that? They are a little thicker at the bottom than the JPX-800's but dont know how that will look when you address the ball. If I have my fitting before you make a decision I'll let you know.

Out of interest how much is the fitting? I'm using the burner 2.0's at the moment and they do the job well. Very easy to get the ball up and long, by all accounts you can't work them very well but as high handicappers that won't bother us :D

No idea how much fitting is, i've heard that American Golf don't charge if you buy the clubs but not sure if its the same everwhere.

I'm lucky that i live close to a large independent golf superstore who are registered fitters for Ping, Cobra and Mizuno so i may go and spend the day there and see what is best for me. I did the same when i went there for a Driver and left 3 hours later with a Cobra S2...absolutely superb purchase and (on a personal level) it out performed drivers that were twice the price
