well i thought i used to hit my drives quite well, but now that i am playing with 'better' players i notice that their drives are a lot higher and therefore further than mine.
So i went to the driving range for 2 hours hitting roughly 200 balls. i tried different grips, different tee heights, different stances and different swings. Nothing worked and now i am considering leaving the driver at home for tomorrows comp.
any advice and how to hit the drives high, but not sky it! would be very much appreciated thanks

To hit the driver correctly you need to position it inside the left heel and look to make contact just past the equilibrium of the swing as it starts to rise (hit it on the upswing). As for teeing it up I tend to favour just less than 1/2 the ball showing over the top at address.

For what its worth, you can probably disregard at least the last 75 balls you hit as by the time I'd hit 125 shots I'd be way too tired to focus and concentrate fully

If you are trying different things without any change, you need a pro or at least a seasoned golfer to watch you as I think you are compensating for the changes as you make a swing. A pro would see this, you might not.

There is an optimum swing and ball trajectory for all golfers, finding it yourself is not always easy. Having examples or comparisons can be beneficial but not always effective for the individual, again a pro would see this.

The only other things you can try have been mentioned, but I would see a pro and explain to them exactly what you are seeking woth your swing.

This is similar to a question I asked the pro on Thursday when i had a lesson with my driver. I have always considered that I hit the ball pretty high and i asked if I hit it too high. His reply was that compared to other club golfers I do hit it much higher and what did he say was the reason for this?
Club head speed!!
Most club golfers swing between 80 and 90 mph which gives them a fairly flat ball flight. I am swinging around 108mph with the driver and that is why my ball flight is much higher.
Get out to watch a pro tournament and see how high their ball flight is. High tee, fast swing and correct launch and it goes for miles.
