Afternoon all,
Any one suffer with this ? Any tips for lowering it? I'm on various pills from the GP , so they are fully aware of issues, but just wondering if anyone does anything else ? Or has done anything that has helped lower there BP.

To give you an insight , fitness isn't an issue , weight isn't an issue , I eat healthy ,don't smoke and drink alcohol very rarely. I drink enough water per day .

Pills have helped and Bp has dropped to the 160 mark which is a lot lower than where it was .

Cheers👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿

Are you stressed - work/life issues? If so, try Headspace app (other mindfulness apps are available) and try to relax and chill out more.

Although this may require giving up golf ;)

Main things to assist would be to reduce salt intake, reduce caffeine intake, improve sleep quality and find ways to manage stress..
Thank you , ref caffeine , I have 1 cup of coffee in the morning and then 2 cups of tea during the day . Sleep is something I'm trying to improve on, this has always been an issue, I reckon my salt intake is low .

If you’re superfit and doing all the right things a ball park figure would be around 120/80. Some people have higher baselines, e.g. 135/85, some will be lower. Mrs H’s baseline is around 115/65, and is a moderate to heavy smoker - go figure that…

The 120 can go up quite a bit with exercise, the lower one will also rise but not by as much. Both can be of concern but it’s the lower one that needs watching more. Mine without meds is around 165/105 - way too high. With meds, around 125/85. Heart rate without meds is around 95, but 65 with meds.

The old saying, “you are what you eat,” is relevant. A quick Google with give you list of what to avoid and what to eat.

Once upon a time a rough guide to BP was 100+your age over 90. That’s been dropped in favour of 120/80. I’d suggest popping into Boots and buying a BP machine. Omron is a decent make without blowing the bank. What you might find by doing it at home is the reading is lower. Some people ‘suffer’ white coat syndrome. The first sight of a medic sees the BP rise.

Hi mate

Hope all is good with you .

To give you an insight , I have a BP machine and have to take it twice a day . With meds my BP has dropped to 159/98 ,without it goes to 198/ 110. Highest has been 237/126.
I was rushed to hospital the other night and meds have been increased. Heart rate even with high BP is a steady 55-58.
Food wise , I eat really well .
They are going to to do other tests but at the moment the only thing that pops up is genetics.

Hi Guy, sorry to hear of your problems with high BP.
I'm going through similar as you, but not quite as high.
My average over a week was 168/80, reaching as high as 190 at one point.
The doctor has increased my meds but also introduced a diaretic tablet. I asked what side effects there were. He said weeing more often and for longer, i said i wee enough as it is 🤣
Ive also had a blood test and discussing the results next Monday. I'll let you know the outcome.
Good luck mate.👍

I take it you get regular cholesterol readings taken.
Did you smoke, have you stopped and how long ago? are things the medics take in to consideration.
The other obvious one is alcohol consumption.

Yea , cholesterol is fine , only smoked as a young kid , but haven't since about 14 years old . Very rarely drink alcohol. For example haven't drunk since boxing day and probably won't till April when out with friends .

Get tested for kidney disease too please. Hope you are well and get better
Cheers mate , kidney disease flagged up on one of the blood tests, they reckon i have stage 3 chronic kidney disease but I know that is something that isn't that serious in the grand scheme of things and if we can control my BP that will help with the Kidney side of things.

Hope all is good mate .

I've gone to caffeine free. I drink a lot of coke, sugar free, now caffeine free, and have gone to nescafe azera decaf. Coz it's like proper coffee. Also my alcohol consumption has dropped to about 10 units a week. That's brought mine down to around 135 and in decent exercise and then it's about 130. If it starts to climb again I don't have anything else to give.

I'm cutting down on salt intake; more fish, less red meat; looking to do a bit more exercise - though my regular walks with golf are good.
Not entirely blood pressure related, but I went for hospital tests yesterday.

The guy in the chair next to me had an angiogram 4 weeks ago and needs stents. He was there last week but he got bumped for emergencies, came back yesterday. They went in with the angiogram again and because he changed his diet 4 weeks ago it has improved so much they didn't put stents in anymore.

I don't know what he ate before but he said that for the last month it was salads, fish, chicken, rice. Really made me think that it is surprisingly quick for diet to take effect.
In recovery he got an egg mayo sandwich so he isn't entirely off any bad stuff either.
