Help for a gifted 16 year old

After some advice. My son has just turned 16 been playing for about a year and has shown he has some great talent for the game. He hits it miles though a bit left and right. With a 7 iron going 170+ and nearly 300 with the driver. I really don’t know what is the best to do for him. He has had few lessons but I feel he needs something more intense or regular to maximise his potential. We live in Northampton do you have any advise?

He is now playing off 21. Not quite got his head round comps yet.

Your lad hits it a long way which is great - but the truth is he’s only beginning to learn the game - lessons to develop technique and comps to learn the ‘head’ game. Your encouragement and interest in supporting him in developing his game is great ?

I can recommend a good coach in Milton Keynes. It's a little outside Northampton, but not too far. He looks after my son too, got him to single figures. Just pm me if you want to give him a try

If he enjoys playing let him play. If he wants to get his handicap down get him into club comps. If he wants to get better, get him some lessons from a good local pro.

The simple answer is if he wants to progress he needs to get into comps and learn to play with the pressure of card and pencil in hand. The OP doesn't say if they are members of a club so that would be my starting point and perhaps utilise the teaching of the club pro. If he shows the talent you think he has (although off 21 at 16 he's playing catch up as there will a lot in his age group much lower and still dropping). My advice would be don't push him, get him in a club, get him playing comps and see where it goes from there
