Welcome to the forum and the great game of golf.

Golf will enchant, frustrate, seduce and reduce you to tears-so its like a wife and marriage-

Hi, Welcome in.

Like you I only stared playing in sept. Thanks to the guys/gals here and a few lessons, I am now playing to about a 15 handicap, and have no spare time at all!

Let me be the first to introduce you to the most contraversial (sp) disscusion on this here board!!!

New clubs? If you are serious about playing, and playing well, get custom fitted for ya new bats!

Find somewhere that has a range and prefereably a vector launch monitor. Tell the pro your budget and let him chuck all sorts at you untill you find something you like and that you hit well everytime!

Most custom fitting sessions are free if you go ahead and buy the clubs!

Dont make the same mistake you did the first time and buy off the shelf again!

Hope you have fun here, look forward to your contributions!

Where you from BTW?

Not sure he is ready for a discussion on CF,we dont want to scare him away too early!!

Bit like going from taking an Aspirin to mainlining Heroin straight off.

Lets lead him in gently then when he is hooked feed him some CF action.

Nah, straight in at the deep end!

You watch him go straight to the for sale/wanted section and try to sell his golfing villa then not post again!

just thought I would pop in tonight, thanks for the very warm welcome. Didn't expect it at all, but that is probably because I am used to football forums where your first 100 posts are replied to with F*** off!!!

Well aware of CF, and had a couple of brief discussions at American Golf already. Had a little play with a Nike Sasquach(sp) driver on a members day and stuck it long and sweet which is how I knew my driver was so bad!!!

As for where I am from, born and bred Leeds and since marriage Wakefield.

Surrounded by some amazing courses but money is tight so not yet sampled them.

Regular courses are Wike, The Village and Brandon in Leeds and a nine holer in Wakfield called Acanthus.

Wike is the best of the bunch, the others are very good for a hacker like me.

If you are serious about CF (light blue touchpaper and watch the thread combust) you really do need to find one with a bay on a range where you can see the flight and shape of shots.

The launch monitor will give you all the stats regarding spin rates, projected distance, direction, flight etc, but you get a much more honest feedback by watching the ball itself.

Even better would be to try and get a CF somewhere like a local club and use proper balls (as opposed to low compression, often beaten up range balls). If you can hit real balls you'll also get a more accurate picture of how far each club really goes.

Just a thought. Hope it helps

Thanks to everyone for the tit-bits of information provided already.

CF is (unfortunatly) a way down the line at the minute but will remember the info so far and will certainly be asking for more advice closer to the time.

I think I need as ball discussion first, but will have a nosey through old threads here 1st.

Today should be a good day, the boss isn't about!!!

Welcome! Seems a bit strange saying that as you have already posted more than me. Have some trouble logging in to post at work.

I am also a late starter (35) in the Leeds area. Have played at most of the courses you mention and my rounds sound similar (the odd par and lots of triples). Am up at Wike on the range most weekends or on the par 3. Let me know if you are interested in a round sometime.

Morning lefthandleeds.

Given how workshy I am and have no problem logging in from work the chances are I will have posted more than most by the end of next week!!!

I'll give you a shout for a round at some point, my regular playing partner has just broken his thumb falling during a fell race!!!

I'm not far from Wakefield, if you fancy a game some time PM me, I am a member at Mid yorks.
I pass acanthus daily on the 62 on my way home. What's it like?

If you decude to go down the CF route. I would recommend the Belfry or if you want to stay local DG at Huddersfield has custom fit with outdoor range, only 25 mins from Wake.
