Good afternoon everyone, I've just signed up to the forum and hope to pass the time whilst I am in the office!!!

I'm 29 and first played golf last September, I've had about half a dozen lessons and spent plenty of time on the range and local courses over the winter.

I'm nowhere near a handicap at the minute but since the lessons I know what I need to be doing and although it isn't there yet I feel I have a half decent game in me.

Last time out I shot consecutice course pars and later hit my first course birdie (lets ignore the three consecutive 10s for now in the same round).

My biggest mistake so far is rushing into buying clubs. I bought a set from JJB Sports, 'Maxfli Patriot' they're OK, but since I added a proper club to the bag, a 60deg wedge (Titleist Vokey) I am desprate for new clubs already!

My driver is a waste of space and will be the next investment but probably not until the end of the year. I've hit a few drivers in American Golf and the like and te problem is the driver and not me!!!

Hopefully I will pick up plenty of hints and tips about the game and have a good laugh here at the same time.

Oh, I'll apologise in advance for some of the poor attempts at jokes I am likely to make too!!!

Welcome to the forum Spoff. You've made a wise choice in both the forum and the sport you've chosen to play. Any reason why you've taken the game up so late?
Don't bother apologizing for any bad jokes by the way, Madandra never does.

Spoff, welcome to the forum m8.

You have been bitten by the bug and there is no cure. I am sure the the ladies and gentlemen on this forum will educate you regarding which clubs to buy when you decide to change from you JJB sticks.

Why did I take the game up so late?

At about 15 years old I was taken to a pitch and put course and couldn't hit the little white sod more than 10 yards.

I was getting annoyed and my mate was getting annoyed. Then I pinged one off the tee twice as far as the hole was fron the tee.

I then proceeded to hack at ten yard intervals.

Then just last year another mate who took up the game confinced me to go round his local 9 hole course.

1st shot 3 foot from the pin. I was hooked (granted I took four putts from there but the tee shot. Wow)

Went round the par 27 course in 49 and not stopped talking/thinking/playing golf since.

I have a wife and a three year old son. Somewhere...

Welcome Spoff,

Be prepared to lose all your free time as this forum creeps into your sub-conscious. I'm sure you will get lots of advice on upgrading all parts of your kit.

I am sure once you practice what you have learnt from the lessons and get out and play regularly you will soon become a more than competent player. Get the handicap as soon as possible and enjoy the challenge of trying to play to it week in week out

Man hours the GM Forum has now cost the British economy....

One billion and one....

One billion and two..

One bi....

Just as well most of us took up the game late, Spoff, or we'd still be living in mud huts!
