Hearing aids

Anyone had dealings with :

Audiological science ?

Had a call with them earlier.
Offering the Oticon intent 1 at £3k.
5 year guarantee and 12 months interest free credit.
Home fittings so you can try out all your home entertainment.
Could also ask if there's a setting to screen out the nagging 😉

Yes it’s called the off button😂 also works for babies crying👍

My understanding is you have to wait for a referral to see an audiologist and get a prescription.
There's a very long waiting list.
Once I have the private prescription I will ask.
I mentioned way back that after a GP referral, over the phone, i was wearing them 9 weeks later.

Anyone know if Specsavers have a finance package ?
Can't see anything on their website 🤔
Specsavers appointment today, another hearing test and the same results.
Finance is available and he confirmed the Specsavers elite range is the signia pure, so I'll do some research on this device.

Picked up the Specsavers elites yesterday, nothing to compare them to but they seem great, 100 day trial period so get to have a proper test.

Who knew taking a piss was so loud 😳

So on Tuesday i was fitted with hearing aids at the hospital. The ones provided were Phonak M70. Oddly enough it was Phonak I was looking at. Got to say I have been very impressed with them. The size of the units are smaller than I thought. The hearing clarity is very good. Plus the Bluetooth which is linked to my phone is an added bonus. 👍

My experience at Specsavers hasn't been great
Firstly I tried the Signia device, was fine apart from Bluetooth dropping out on the phone, something to do with the version (LE) of Bluetooth they use on the device, ok with Apple technology, not with Android.

So after a month I asked to try their Phonax equivalent which uses classic Bluetooth which is better for Android.
Unfortunately one of the aids wouldn't hold a charge so I have to collect the new set next week.

I've decided to terminate the trial and look elsewhere.

The hearing aids that I have they have battery's which are changed every 5-6 days. They are free which is a bonus. One of the benefits of this model is that they are smaller than the rechargeable hearing aids.
Again it’s is an excellent model which works alongside the phonak app you can download.

So did you have to pay?

Mine are NHS and work well, and can be set up on an app and you get free batteries. I rarely wear mine, as I (apparently), i only have trouble at a high pitched sound level, which I don't really want/need to hear, when fitted they said they wouldn't have given me a pair if the high pitch stuff was as good as all other settings

So today I played my first round with my hearing aids. I didn’t even notice they were in.
Except.
When you get a txt message there is a loud ding in your ear. Again it has been a mental morning with folk ringing me before the round and it is an odd/ strange/ different sensation. It’s kinda like someone talking inside your head but no one else can hear the conversation. I suppose it’s like when folk with EarPods in their ears talk on the phone. To me it felt a bit ignorant talking as normal to someone that no one else can see. I went to a quiet area of the practice area to continue my conversation.
I suppose all that can be sorted out by turning off blue tooth so your hearing aids are not ringing.

A couple of the lads in the fuddle should wear hearing aids. They don’t coz there big and pink and old. They were gobsmacked at the size of mine. One of the lads said his are twice as big at least.

Now hears a question ( like the hear😉). One of the lads mentioned he is a bit embarrassed about wearing hearing aids and thought there was a bit of a stigma about them. I kinda understand that because it is the way of the world today. However in the same sense, how many kids wear cool AirPods. Which actually can be used as hearing aids. Re the last sentence. My hearing aids cost about £800. AirPods cost £250 😳

Anyway, one of the lads has said “ Sid that am off to the drs for another newer pair of hearing aids like yours Tash.

According to the app that is linked to the phone, I am wearing them for a minimum 13 hours a day. 👍

Golf still rammel though, only won a quid today.

@Tashyboy I don't wear hearing aids but I'm surprised by the comment regarding a stigma. I wouldn't think anyone would care? So commonplace now, surely we have moved on from that way of thinking

I mentioned previously that my NHS aids were nine weeks from asking to getting.
There's a daily walk in clinic nearby where you can be seen really quickly for batteries or any issues using the device.
Went in two weeks ago because one kept slowly working its way out and I had to tap it back in.
Got the batteries, got the ear buds changed to a slightly larger size and got offered two apps loaded. One is for the Audio Loop facility you seen in shops, banks etc
The other is "Hear in noise" with three modes:
Hear everyone: should be called hear everything as it literally picks up everything around you.
Speech focus: cuts out background noise
Noise filter: dampens all other sound except one to one speech (or TV).
It also has Bass, treble, middle adjusters.

Went back today as one was playing up. It was declared faulty and I was given newer models. Then I was asked if I wanted them linked to my phone??
Now, if I choose, incoming calls go straight to my aids!
No idea yet how I'm gonna use that one 🫣🤔
What I'm saying is I don't understand paying £1000's if the NHS are so good.
