Before you read on this is just a bit of a rant to get summat off me chest.
i work in the coal mining industry which has been in decline since 1984. In essence there are three working pits left in the country. The company I work for currently owns two of them. The company has been run atrociously for years. On the first of April this year the company decided to close both remaining mines in 18 months time with the loss of 1,500 jobs plus others through supporting companies. Furthermore they wanted us all to take a 10% wage reduction whilst paying the directors and management massive bonuses.
there are moves afoot to try to prolong the inevitable but there are to many people with personal agendas that want to see the industry finished now.
what sticks in my throat is whilst we are eating our toast this morning. 270 men at my pit and 100 men in Yorkshire will be opening letters to say thanks but you have no job. They were given 45 days notice. Yet there is an EU policy or directive which is in place for financial aid to support both coal mines til at least 2018.
How do you get this money.? The Conservative government has to apply for this funding from a central fund within the EU as has the governments of Germany, Poland, Spain, Czech, etc etc. Yet our government which is an advocate of all things bright and beautiful within the EU decides it does not want to.
so just exactly MR Cameron how the hel, being a member of the EU is beneficial to Joe Public when you pick and choose which bits of the EU you like and don't like.
got to shoot off coz ave got to ring me sister to see if her husband has had a letter.
