I am playing at Hazelmere Golf Club on Friday. Any of you guys played the course? Looking at the scorecard it is about 5500 yards off the yellows, but I understand it is very hilly with a number of blind shots.

Yeah we have a reciprocal with it and played there last year. Its a bit of a marmite course, I know plenty who like it and plenty who dont (me included). Its exceptionally hilly, that I dont mind, but rather than winding through the valley (there are a couple of holes that do and these are the better holes imo) the majority are up and down some pretty steep hills (1 and 10 are both very driveable par 4s despite being well over 300 yards)
When we played it it was in pretty good condition and the greens were good and quite quick (albeit too quick in a few spots where the slopes were too severe for the pace, albeit expect shouldnt be a problem based on the recent weather).
Would be a little worried about how slippery some of the slopes are (yes they are that severe in spots) and expect it may be pretty wet at the bottom end of the hills.

Have kept metal spikes in my shoes all winter so seems like they may be useful.

I had a corporate membership there for 2 years about 6 or 7 years back, used to play a couple of times a week. As Fundy says, very hilly, with the walk up the 9th and 12th in need of oxygen on a hot day.... It's better now, they used to have sleepers laid out across the 9th fairway to stop the ball rolling back down the hill.... Even 7 years back when my game wasn't all that good (not that it's much better now....) I could drive 1 and 10 relatively easy, you probably only need a 3 wood max on either hole. 13 has an interesting dog leg with a blind sunken green round the corner... I don't dislike the course and have recently been thinking about giving it a try again. Don't use a driver on 18, lay up short of the water

Thanks again for your views on Hazelmere.
However not for the first time this winter the winner was the weather. Had set off at 7am and we were 25 miles away on the M25 when we got a call to say that the course was closed due to the heavy rain this morning.
Turned back to our own club for a late breakfast and 18 holes.
Hope to get to Hazelmere in the Spring.
