I'm with Gordon here..
To me, a truly memorable shot has to involve more skill than luck.
Tiger's chip, Louis's albatross, whilst great shots, involved more luck than skill.
Faldo's iron to the 13th, Lefty's 6iron at the same hole or Sandy's bunker shot showed more skill than luck and so, in my opinion, hold a more memorable position in the great shot lists

Yep I agree also

Woods shot has been marketed beyond belief to make more memorable

Lyles bunker shot was one of the best I have seen

Scott Hoch's mised tiddler in the play off against Faldo was quite memorable.:ooo: Reminded me of the one Doug Sanders missed at St Andrews to beat Nicklaus.

Yeah Rich. Admit it, admit it you're a tiger fanboy:)

I'm myself have matching Davis love III wallpaper and duvet set

Tiger is just a poor mans Davis love

I have been accused of being a Tiger hater, but not a fanboy. I agree that DL111, as I like to call him, is a pin up though.

Does anyone know what size the target landing spot would have been for Tiger's chip?

I'm thinking not that large given the break but don't know what size to imagine, credit card maybe?

In what way does 'memorable' translate to 'best'.

The OP specifically asked for memorable. If you asked 100 amateurs golfers and general sport fans who watch golf to name a memorable shot, the Tiger chip in would come out miles higher than any other (largely down to the Nike and Sky marketing campaigns - but that doesnt make it any less memorable).

It may not have been the most difficult shot in the history of golf, but the context, the player, the crowd, Augusta, the drop on the last roll etc all add up to make this a moment which has transcended into the wider sporting world. There's few other single golf shots which can claim that.

There are only 3 shots which stand out as memorable to me (at the Masters). These are the Tiger shot mentioned here, the Luis Albatross and Bubba's stupid, ridiculous hook wedge onto the green! These 3 shots stand out more than any other I can remember. If someone talks 'Masters' to me, these are the ones I think of. I think most non golfers would probably state the Tiger chip and Bubba shot too. So for that reason, they simpky HAVE to be the most memorable.

Isn't this fun!

Agree the term memorable is little to do with anything other than it sticks in the mind!
Bubbas hook shot I can recall clearly now someone else has mentioned it but it wasn't lodged in my moderately engaged grey matter until then.;)

In terms of putts, I'm showing my age here, but it was Langer's missed 6 footer in the last singles match of the Kiawah Island War on the Shore Ryder Cup that is my most memorable putt, for the wrong reasons of course but I remember watching the tv willing it to go in, Langers arched pose as it crept by. I think the Sun newspaper went with the headline 'Clanger' which also sticks in my mind anytime I see him on tv.:o

I dont think its the greatest shot ever, but watching it certainly makes me smile.

People talk about Seve all the time (and i wasnt alive to watch him in his prime) and some of his shots are stupidly good! However, enter Tiger Woods into YouTube and you will see some outrageous shots!!

Seve played more spectacular shots then Tigers had hot women?

1983 Palm beach gardens Ryder Cup 18th hole from a fairway bunker 245 out he hit a 3w onto the green. There isn't any footage of that shot, Nicklaus classed it as the greatest shot he ever saw.
The Open, chip n run between the 2 bunkers on the final hole.
Crans Ser Sierre possibly the greatest 2 shots in succession you'll ever see.
His powers of recovery against Tom Lehman in the Ryder Cup, extraordinary.

just to name a few, anybody else care to mention others he played?

The thing with Tigers shot is also the dramatic commentary that we hear with it now, "In your life, did you see anything like that?" This probably helps to make it stick in the mind also.

When I heard that dopey commentator say that, DLIII came straight to my mind so the answer was yes 3 yrs earlier.

Sandy Lyle's shot from the fairway bunker at 18 in the 88 Masters stands out for me. Maybe a 7 iron from a fairway bunker isn't that hard a shot for a pro but given the circumstances I think it is right up there. It had to be perfect and it was!

The putt on 18 at St Andrews and the jig and punch of the air is surely one of the most famous golf pics of them all.

Amazing how cleanly he takes the shot, brilliant ball striking.

There is some right rubbish on this thread, written by people who are either too young or blinkered to know better.

Lyle's 7 iron from that trap was amazing. So was Christy O'Connor Junior's 2 iron at the Belfry. Langer chipping out of a tree was great and very memorable. Seve's Swiss masterclass from the trees was unforgettable. Seve's sand iron from the car park on his way to winning the Open at 19 years of age is another really obvious candidate and one I remember like it was yesterday - very vivid. Ditto Larry Mize's chip.

If anyone asked me to name the most memorable shot in golf though, it would not be one that happened in my lifetime as it was in 1935 at the Masters. Gene Sarazen's legendary 4 wood for an albatross to shoot up to joint leader with just four holes to play. This took him into a playoff which he then duly won. Quite amazing and no wonder it was labelled "The Shot Heard 'Round The World."

If you think Woods chip is the most memorable shot in golf then you should possibly get to know the history of the game a little better and then you might have a more valid opinion. That chip was dramatic but I only remembered it at all when I read other people's memories

That chip was dramatic.

Pretty much the only reason why I remember, seeing it brings back the memories of the drama of the day and the moment. I have not watched any other shot live (on TV) anywhere near.

Most memorable shot in golf for me... Yes
Most memorable shot of all time (taking out the "moment" of it)... Top 100 I would say, possibly.
