Not the mans biggest fan by any means but I have to say it's the most memorable golf shot of my 40+ yrs.
Given who it was, the back 9 on day 4 of a Major on a hole everyone knows so well, the last roll of the ball as it is seemingly willed into the hole by the crowd, amazing focus, thought process and shot execution under the highest pressure by a man at the top of his game.

Even watching it again now seems a shame his career has petered out, perhaps prematurely, at least from the supreme level it was once at.

Anyone think they've got a more memorable golf shot?

Oh and bring on the Masters!

I really don't get what all the fuss is about this shot. Everyone in the field knows how the ball runs down to the hole in that location so although it looks spectacular, it was a fairly straightforward shot.

If you want something special, how about Seve's shot out of the trees at Crans Sur Sierre? Now that really is a shot that nobody else could have pulled off!!

I think the Woods one was more iconic, especially for Nike with the swoosh being perfectly in shot as it died with the last breath. Plenty of Seve shots were jaw dropping for their audacity and execution but the Swiss one takes some beating

People forget that Davis Love III holed this shot on the final day of the tournament a few years earlier, he was 1 shot behind the lead and was further away from the hole then Tiger. Tiger went on to bogey 17 & 18 after his histrionics.

but he won the play off. Can't remember Love winning the Masters. Most memorable shot has to be played by the winner for me.

Whats that got to do with it? Davis was the first in the tournaments history to hole that shot if I'm not mistaken. Who won is irrelevant. It's your opinion, but Davis did it first. Unless I get proven wrong!

So you think it was more memorable than Tiger's chip in ? That was the question asked by the OP. The fact that so many have forgotten it perhaps proves it wasn't that memorable.

All ive said was that its been done before Tiger did it!!!

In fact I read a post somewhere else where someone said they watched on a practise day one year most of the players tried that shot as the pin was in the same position and most were either holing it or getting within 2 ft, his opinion was that it wasn't that hard of a shot. If your into the whole Tiger drama thing then you were wetting yourself.....

small difference between doing it on a practice day, and doing it on the final day, whilst in contention

Yeah Rich. Admit it, admit it you're a tiger fanboy:)

I'm myself have matching Davis love III wallpaper and duvet set

Tiger is just a poor mans Davis love

Some great shots recalled but there is a 'greatness' about the drama of Tigers chip, for sheer drama it's hard to beat imo. The buzz around Tiger back then was amazing, really did transcend golf into a sport non golfers would watch.

If you have to think of one golf shot in an instant, for me that's what comes to mind.

Other great shots (defined by the moment/circumstance as much as the execution) for me are -

Lyle's bunker shot last hole of 88 masters
Mizes crazy chip in on playoff 87 masters
Lawrie's 4 iron to last at Carnoustie playoff in 99 as those around him faded.

The best shot in my memory, at Augusta was '96, Faldo's 2nd into the 13th with his long iron, absolute beaut'!

Sorry I don't agree. As long as Woods didn't fluff that chip it was always going to finish very close, it's just luck it actually went in and the Nike marketing guys must have been wetting their corporate pants at the sight of the swoosh hanging over the edge of the hole.

Most of the other shots recalled required incredible skill and nerve to pull them off.
