Hang on lads. How dare you put up union flags on St Georges day. Yer all racialists.

The lilly livered yoghurt knitters have tried to make us Brits feel guilty about being patriotic. If you put up a Union Flag you will probably get a letter from your local council ORDERING yu to remove it.

The Micks (and the rest) celebrate Paddy's Day purely because Guiness have spent the last 100 years using it to promote their product. If there was no product tie-in, Paddy's Day would be as ignored as the rest. It's got nothing to do with patriotism.

That said, ours is the only Saint who did something cool - I mean he killed a dragon for crying out loud!

Not convinced he actually killed a dragon. He was martyred for being a christian.

Why is the word 'turk' racist? It is interchangeable with the word turkish, according to Wikipedia. No mention of it not being acceptable usage.

So calling me a Scot is racism ....see the country has gone to the dogs. If you break the word Pakistan down it means Clean Land so the word Paki means clean. Its hardly an insult.

Did anyone ever buy ice cream from the Tally Van? Which derives from the first people in Scotland to make and sell ice cream were from Italy thus the term Tally was used. It is not offensive nor is being called a sweaty sock or jock.

Your future King has married one ;)

:D

The iniquities of language use are many and varied and I'm afraid not easily discussed, despite many pub philosophers attempting it. Best to leave it alone unless you're willing to do the research and commit to the study.

Boring, but true.

Apparently so. St Patrick was an Englishman, but the Irish still celebrate their Patron Saint in a big way. We should too.

He was Welsh. But thats ok ;)

What a load of complete and utter tosh. To say that Irish only celebrate it because of guinness is daft....
St.Patricks day was and still is a religious holiday (bank holiday so no work either if your lucky) in Ireland long before guinness was even invented.

Yes I agree Guinness have promoted it and done that really well but you have to remember us "Tattie Howkers" have travelled the world for generations and any excuse for a pish up is always welcome :D :D :D

Peace and love (hope your team go straight back down ;))

ps Happy Georges day

Personally I'm just happy to wear my red and white shirt in work and would have enjoyed a few beers in Georges honour if I could still drink. Top tip never get into a drinking contest with a Scot, Welshman and Irishman to decide who the best saint was. That was one messy night

My bad. I meant to suggest that the widespread and enthusiastic nature of the celebration was marketing-induced and not imply that is the only reason why it was celebrated.
