why is it with all of todays tech being put into golf club manufacture along with balls flying further that the average h/cap hasnt improved .
any thoughts on why this is so .I cant come up with any good reason other than maybe people dont practice as much these days as compared to yesteryear.but i cant really see that as an answer. what do you think.?

Because you always get new people arriving to the game with inital high HC to help balance it out plus course are getting longer to counter the balls being hit further

Also you have the older players whose HC's are on the way up as well as the years advance

There are more Cat 1 golfers than there used to be before - more players get to scratch and plus figures HC

And the players that get to cat 1 or scratch or even + all practice (a lot) & all the others are just happy to bash a ball about holding up play & ruining the game.

Well very generic and kind of you to insult 90% of golfers

There is an old boy at my club who used to play off scratch, he told me that back then there were only 70-80 scratch golfers in the country. Now most counties have that many.

Are they really golfers or just people who like to take a stroll & hit a ball, don't think anyone can really truthfully call themselves a golfer till at least they get to a 5 maybe 6 handicap. I mean let's say your speaking to someone & they say they are a golfer you ask what do you play off & they reply 10 would you really class them as a golfer ? I wouldn't, okay yes I can accept that they might try to play the game but that doesn't make them a golfer.

You're clearly either a huge snob, simply fishing and being controversial for the sake of it, or are hugely ignorant. Hard to tell which I'm afraid

Well reading your posts on here I can only suggest you are on a wind up

Anyone playing golf regardless of HC or ability is a golfer - same with any sport. Out sport doesn't need ignorant arrogance attitudes like you display on here - as been said I have a feeling a number would be glad not to have you as a member of their club

Very poor effort at trolling. D minus, must try harder :)

It is true that the average club golfer handicap has been about 18 for many years, despite allegedly better clubs and balls. This may be in part because of slightly longer courses, plus the fact that age profile of club golfers has also increased!

Handicap snobbery/superiority is such an ugly thing to see.
GM exists for golfers of all abilities and further examples of such behaviour will trigger Mod action.

Laziness amongst a few other things. Natural ability counts for a lot in golf and it's not always possible to buy a game!

You really are a joy aren't you? Are there no other forums you can post your drivel on or are they all fed up with you?

Wish we could all have been born playing to single figures...

I love the way some low handicap golfers think that everyone should be capable of playing to the same standard with a bit of practice, and that anybody who isn't a Cat-1 isn't a real golfer! They don't seem to realise that they have a special talent that the rest of us less well coordinated folk just don't have! Most of us suffer from LOFT, which stands for Lack of (something) Talent! :(
