handicap vs a baby

See you in 6 years...:ears:..

Oh, and big congrats. My 2 are the best decisions I ever made....

Exactly. I gave golf up pretty much for about that time. If I wasn't working I'll be at home helping out of babysitting whilst the other half went out to work. No regrets at all family is more important and you can get your golf back soon enough when you get back to playing more regularly.

Infact playing less in those years made me determined to make up for lost time. I played and practiced more than ever before when I got back into it.

Congratulations

Ours arrived last March and my handicap tracked up until around July (6.4 from 5). Once it clicked back into gear the handicap has steadily been on the way down to lowest ever exact (4.6). Next to no practice time compared to previous years which takes the expectation and pressure off somewhat. Tend to play 8:30ish on a saturday to make sure i'm home by lunch. Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday are family time. Setting a routine is important as it bothers HID less if she knows whats happening. Also I do free-lance work and look after the wee one 1 or 2 days during the week, so never feel guilty about scooting off for a game at the weekend as we have loads of time together. Can't wait till he's big enough to join in.

3 months. waited til scan
If I cant golf or go fishing, my life is over :(

nope it's just about to change.....!

11 days old, dad spends (spent?) a lot of time in a tent by a lake here (or in France....), but is happier now than I've ever seen him - mind you he did suggest I might like to join his party to France next year

Cute kid. Looks like his lying on a massive labrador . Last fishing trip to france booked for april too

In answer to the thread title, I'd be happy to give him a shot a hole but they have to play off the yellow tees.;)

Congrats!!!!!!! :)

You still gotta make sure you have time for yourself (golf) you've just got to be a bit cuter in how you agree on that time.

Nice to see you've got your priorities right  Congratulations anyway! And enjoy every minute of your child 'cos they'll be a stroppy teenager before you know it.

Congrats.....

I have 2 girls 5 & 1.. Only been playing 2 years so do ok, although working shifts helps, I play when they are at school and nursery.. Not that many comps at weekends tho, hence little handicap movement!!

I have however only spent 1 night in my bivvi in the last 2 years, and that was with my eldest !!!

Enjoy tho, you won't here many complaints from me..... Well not proper ones!!!

Handicap pretty much bottomed out the month ours was born.
We were very lucky - we had a good sleeper from day 1, and when that happens, mum is happy , so dad doesn't have to be around all the time to support. So I got to play more than I expected.
Also lucky that I could play on Friday afternoons, which meant i could be around weekends.

Advice I would give, is to give all of yourself to your kid and your wife, and that will make them happy, and that will make time for you.

Congrats

This is a funny thread. I was saying last week that if my little boy Zach wasn't born this year I may of got to single figures. He was born in June and I had about 3 months off. I'm back to playing once a weekend now but not getting any practice in and I'm not getting out running that regular either. Next year I hope to get back to winning ways. This year my handicap has stayed at at 12 so I'm pleased with that.

So she's 3 months pregnant, and has been in Jamaica for 4 months?!?!
LOL

Just had my first littl'un, a girl, 18 days old and asleep on me as I type. I've been on paternity leave last 3 weeks, have actually played a bit surprisingly.

Hovis, congrats fella

Do what I did when I had mine (14months now), simply pack the car a few days before in the form of 'sneakin' an hour at the range' and return home saying how much you enjoyed it. In the meantime you'll have already booked a half day or used lieu time (if applicable) for a couple of days later.

Then go to 'work' as normal and hey presto, drive as required to your club and golf away, simply ignoring any mobile calls because you're 'really busy'....

Finish round, get changed back into work clobber and return home tellin' the beloved what a tough day you've had. The day after (or when good lady is out) remove clubs from boot of car to their rightful place.

Ends.

My nipper is 16 months now and for the first year I was still able to play every weekend but when he got fast on his feet my other half made it clear she needed a bit more help over the weekend and I got to the stage where I didn't want to be away most of the day every Saturday. No time during the week to play so that has put the mockers on handicap reductions.

The other problem is keeping a full membership is really not viable as down south a decent club doesn't cost much less than £2000 a year. A lot of cash for 1 round every 2 or 3 weeks!

All of the older guys I play with agreed on one thing. Don't worry about the golf, plenty of time for that when children are grown. I am going to try and keep my handicap going by getting a cheap membership at a public course and play maybe 1 open a month.

But when you can come home to this, you'll not mind missin' out on a round or two....

Congratulations!

Son number 2 arrived (4 weeks early) last Sunday for us so the jury's out on how that effects golf next year but my other half is very understanding and I'm able to play during the week so, tiredness aside, our 2 and a half year old didnt really change things much for me personally.

Either way though you wont mind missing a bit of golf here and there. (And if/when you dont score well you'll be able to forget it as soon as you get back through the door:))

But when you can come home to this, you'll not mind missin' out on a round or two....

Not being rude, but if I did come home to that picture I'd wonder how I ended up in the wrong house ;)

I always made sure I did the feeds thru Friday night. My wife would always take our baby daughter and meet up with her friends for coffee and a natter on Saturdays - I'd go to golf with no qualms at all.
