handicap vs a baby

I've got 2, 4yrs and 18 months.

Still get time for golf, just works around the family. Usually playing early morning on the weekend gives me the rest of the weekend as family time. Also, in the summer, plenty evening golf when they are in bed (we're lucky with ours going to sleep no bother).

It's important you have your own time, however equally important your good lady does aswell so plenty of looking after the kids while she has some me time means its no problem getting time for golf.

Congratulations and enjoy every minute, most amazing experience watching them grow :)

Congrats to you & your missus Hovis but as has been said it does not mean the end of your golf. Just needs some understanding on the part of both of you.

Mind you I can't see the hardship in giving up fishing!!

Not being rude, but if I did come home to that picture I'd wonder how I ended up in the wrong house ;).

Lol, thank you . To be fair, he does look sod all like me. Maybe my missus had the same vacation length that Hovis's missus did, but not in, err, Jamaica...

And Wookie, congratulations to you too, sir!

Our little fella is 13 months, 3weeks after he was born my contract was terminated, I ended up being the full time Dad. My wife runs her own business, so she could pick and choose work days until it went bananas and she got more clients. I had Thursdays through the summer when possible, and in the evening my wife did bath time and put him down, so from 5pm onwards I could golf. I used to book ahead my weekends of competitions. To be honest I needed the golf course for my own sanity, people forget you, you just become so and so's dad or mum... I understand why women head back to work.

I always made sure I did the feeds thru Friday night. My wife would always take our baby daughter and meet up with her friends for coffee and a natter on Saturdays - I'd go to golf with no qualms at all.

Which all joking aside is how to play it, its about compromise, give and take etc. not saying you have to "earn" golf time, but if you do naff all at home, dont get up early or do night feeds if thats possible, then dont be surprised if the mrs gets grumpy!!

Give her a night off on a Friday night, get up early with them on Saturday. Mrs comes down after a lovely long sleep to the news that you are teeing off at 8am on Sunday, she doesnt mind!

And any of the guys who dont have kids yet, thinking it must be so easy for the woman to stay at home, watch jeremy Kyle etc, LOL. the first day i had my 1st all day and night i was destroyed. I openly admit that my Mrs job of looking after the kids is much tougher than mine running the UK sales operations for an IT company!

Give and take (fairly), thats my advice.

Perhaps I should have mentioned that i'm going to be the stay at home dad and my wife is going back to work. I have been able to take the maternity leave instread of my wife.

Good luck! Believe me its a tough job, especially when you get little sleep and your under the weather. But I will say this it is deeply rewarding and you get a very strong bond with this little person! Try to find as many baby and toddler groups, a change of scenario always helps. I do swimming with my boy, chasethefishy is the group, dunno if we learn lots but he loves it, his little face lights up when we walk in and he is the first to get in the pool!

Plus they are usually full of MILF's!!

Many congrats. The adoption process starts in February so hopefully got most of next season to play before the little one arrives

Friend has been doing process since March - expecting a child in Feb

Good luck and much respect

Mmmmmm think this baby might have its benefits after all.;)
Don't get to excited... you'll be amazed at what children do to some women, you'll see them with toast in their hair and some will leave you wondering "who did that??" ... Others wont talk to you full stop, whereas others will talk till the cows come home... I usually avoid coffee mornings unless they are neutral places, saves the bother of getting an ear full from HID and the strive from the other Dad. Oh and there are some baby things that really take you out of your comfort zone, I hate bojangles and Heartbeeps is a bit hit and miss. They really depend on who is doing it, some times you get these pretentious twits who want to be famous. I usually just opt out and let my wife do it unless there is no choice... oh and women grass so keep it shut or HID will get the full run down.

Biggest laugh is listening to them going on about shifting their baby weight, whilst hoovering cake... don't laugh out loud at this or point it out.

Sounds like you've certainly been there. Great post mate.

Firstly, congratulations! No better feeling in the world than when one becomes a parent. It's great news.

Now, as far as your golf game goes I can honestly say I played some of my best golf when our youngest daughter came along in 2009!! We got into a really good routine whereby each Saturday and Sunday morning I would go and play golf (early morning tee off) I'd then be back home by lunchtime and would help out with the tidying and looking after the baby etc. Having the routine and looking forward to a game at the weekend really helped me! lol! You'll need some sort of motivation / something to look forward to when doing those early morning / late night feeds let me tell you! The routine, and being consistent with it, really helped, so enjoy get something like that agreed and you'll be laughing mate.

Most of all, just enjoy the time. They really do grow up too quickly.

All the best.
