Handicap Systems

Remember Chamberlain getting off that 'plane in 1938 with a piece of paper saying "My official handicap is 19 but the Society I am a member of make me play off 11"....?

I refused to play him for money

Balaclava....it seems to me that your club is going out of it's way to make as many excuses to not make competitions qualifying ones for some reason...

The only reason why a competition should not be qualifying if is the course played is not the 'measured one' and you get 100 yards difference anyway on the day so even if one tee is out of action you can you still play. Basically all the greenkeeper has to do is stick the tees somewhere near the plates and you;re away....

The EGU say that a club should provide as many qualifying competitions as possible - which can be strokeplay, Stableford or par/bogey, as long as they're singles and I believe there should be a good mixture to provide some variety and playing a strokeplay every week is mind numbing for most golfers - if this is what you're club are doing then there is no suprise that no-one wants to play in the competitions...

Making every competition 'drawn' is also not really convient for everyone but the bigger competitions should really be drawn to make it as 'proper' a competition a possible....
