Handicap Question

Nowt surprising there, Smiffy can shoot those kinds of figures on the FRONT 9 and he plays off 12.

I'm surprised. One of my qualifying cards at Highwoods showed a gross 78, nett 66 which means I should be off 8. Only two worse than you, you awnker

It sounds reasonable but the proof of the pudding will come once he has a medal/stableford card in his hand. Looking at the evidence I can see why its been done but I also have to say handicap secretary would be one of the last jobs at any club I'd want to do. Not much fun and nothing but moans and groans.

One of the chaps I play with has just handed in 3 cards for his handicap, par 71, SSS 70 (I think, could be 69), his cards were 90, 94 and 102, we were all expecting something around 20, maybe 23 tops.

They've stuck him off 28! Fair play to him he's absolutely livid at it but given he's been winning the pound off the rest of us when we've been giving him 20 shots I don't see how they can justify it?

It's not your mates fault but it should have been around 20 - don't know how the handicap secretary is justifying that one? Sods law he will shoot the lights out in a medal outing and will there on be known as the bandit when he's only followed a process.

hello, sorry to jump on the end of this but my mate is in the same situation kind of. He hasnt played for 2 years and is joining with me next year. He has a handicap but hasnt played compedtivly for over 2 years. Should he hand in three more cards? we have done three rounds just incase and he has on average shot 4 under his handicap over the three rounds (6 under, 3 under and 3 under). Will this activate his handicap again, does he need to do this? andwill this cut his handicap before he gets going again. SS is +1 over par

I'm a bit late, but I was going to say 12 or maybe 11 (except his birdie was on an easy hole!)
I know someone who put in a "best card" of 14 over SSS. They put him off 12. Hardly unfair, as he birdied the 468 yard S.I. 1. Lucky Ba......
He's not done it since....and that was 16 years ago!!!

Seriously, I don't understand.

Why would a round of 85 made up of 5 pars and 13 bogeys get a different handicap to an 85 from 1 birdie, 3 pars and 14 bogeys??

I'm only guessing here but,
If someone's best card has 8 bogeys and 10 doubles then he clearly deserves a 28 hndicap.
If however he has a few pars and throws in a birdie as well as lots of doubles, then he clearly shows he has the potential to go lower
As I say, just a guess
