Hi, New to the sport and just wondering how long it took you to get to your current standard. So the following questions:

1. Whats your current handicap?
2. How long have you been playing?
3. From when you started how long did it take you to break 100?
4. Ditto to break 90?
5. Ditto to break 80?

Just thought it would be interesting to see people progression speeds, I know everyones different... who were the naturals amongst you?

Whats your current handicap - 4
How long have you been playing - On & off for 25yrs
From when you started how long did it take you to break 100 - 6 days
Ditto to break 90 - approx 1 month
Ditto to break 80 - approx 15yrs

There was a hefty "off" period of 14years when I was in the Forces. :D

H/cap = 10
Been playing 25 years ish.
Don't remember shooting over 100.
First h/cap was 18.
Got down to 12 pretty quickly, and got stuck there for 20 years. Got down to 9 last year, and currently on the way back to 12.

been playin 18 years, with a 10 year break apart from the odd round.

First handicap was 24, down to 5 within 3 years
Broke 100 very quickly, before shooting regulary in the 60s/70s after about 2 years.

then chucked it!

So since i took the game up again-

Current handicap 10
Haven't shot above 100
Broke 90 withing 3 rounds
Broke 80 within a month
Average round is about 80 now
Hoping to get back down to 5 by the end of next season

It's all relative to how much time you can put into the game allied to your natural ability with the sticks.
Some people will play off 28 all their lives, some people will be single figures after 3 months. the main thing is that you enjoy it above all else

Current handicap 9, but that is after giving up for a lot of years, and returning to the game when too old. ;)

When i played as a kid in mid 1970's got to 6 in two years.
Broke 100 in a few months
Broke 90 in a few months more
Broke 80 after a year

Must have been a natural in the early years, but not anymore :( :( Now if we all went back to persimmon, small golf ball, non cavity back irons, perhaps the magic would return. :D

That must have been a hugemongous points bonanza. :)
I'd jusy gotten new clubs, having been hacking wrond with a second hand set. We went to a compnay day, held at King James in Perth. Think it's a par 68, round in 79, think I was 2 over on the back nine. By the year's end I was down to 12.

1. Whats your current handicap? 9
2. How long have you been playing? was a nomad golfer for approx 10 years before joining a club and playing seriously for last 4 years
3. From when you started how long did it take you to break 100? a few weeks

First official handicap was 11 been up and down by the odd shot for the last few years, always threatened to post good scores but usually bottled it on back 9.
this year was my most consistant and am playing with a lot more confidence hence the big reduction.

1)Handicap-9.9
2)Played regularly from the age of 6 until I was 16 then gave up until last year. 18 years all together if you don't account for the 8 year gap.
3)I broke 100 when I was 12
4)Broke 90 when I was 13
5)Broke 80 last year.
I joined a club last November, got my handicap March/April and came straight in on 10.
