Good Afternoon
We have a lady that plays golf with us in our Society and she plays off the men's tees woth us and receives 6 courtesy shots.
It was easy to calculate before the new handicap system just add them to her handicap, so she plays off 10 and therefore plays off 16 from our tees, everybody happy. We need now to ask a question:
When should the 6 shots be added under the new system?
Sholud they be added to the Handicap Index?
Should they be added to the Course Handicap?
Should they be added to the playing Handicap?

Thanks
Terry

I may be missing something here, but how were the 6 "courtesy shots" decided before? Arbitrary decision?

When you say plays off the "mens tees", I assume you mean yellows or whites. And, if so, do you know if those tees have been measured for women (i.e. have their own ladies course and slope ratings). Some clubs did this when WHS was introduced.

WHS is only concerned with courses/tees rated for the specific gender. If the particular 'men's' tee are not rated for women, WHS has no formula for handling the situation.
However if the lady was to play from female rated tees the WHS has got a procedure for any gender playing off any gender appropriate tees in the same competition. See Rule 6.2

Yep arbitrary, it was an agreed number of shots based on the average differences at various courses...............it won't change I just need to know at which point to add them. she plays from the men's daily (yellow) tees with us, they havent been measured for women.

Ok noted thank you.............we'll just decide amongst ourselves.

Well, any decision you make is arbitrary as well. There is no right answer to the question, except to do what the majority in the field will be happy with.

Why can the lady not play off the ladies tees (red tees most likely). At least you can then give her a fair handicap, and use the guidance to provide a proper adjustment due to a mixed tee competition.

I tend to agree but it is her choice.............we will sort it, thanks for your help.
