Had my swing speed measured today !!!

I would think that for the vast majority of golfers a R shaft will be spot on.
I wounder just how many are out there hitting poor shots using stiff shafts bragging to their mates.

If i thought using ladies shaft would knock 5 shots of a round for me i woudnt hesitate.

teslar

I suspect your swing speed is a bit higher than 94 because most of us do not have a smash factor of 1.5. If you have a quickish tempo, start with stiff, if you have a smooth tempo start with regular and see how you get on.

Better still, head to a fitting centre for one of the big brands. They should fit you free of charge.

My average ball speed was coming out at 142mph with a carry of 232yds avg, and a launch angle of 11-12 degrees.

It didn't tell me my clubhead speed but the guy there said the ball speed would be approx. 1.5 times the club speed. So i'm guessing clubhead speed is around 94mph.

See if you can search this on google.

The Dynamics of Distance… ...Power Golf the effortless way

There is a downloadable slide show which looks interesting.

Clubhead speed isn't necessarily ball speed/1.5

I'd say if you were getting 140+ mph ball speed then unless every shot was absolutely spot on out the middle (to get the 1.5 smash factor), then you could well be 100 mph clubhead speed.....which is good.

My ball speed is generally under 140, sometimes down to only 135.

If you trust the 242 carry reading (which seems a bit generous) then you are really getting good launch conditions. NICE :)

Re: teslar

If your clubhead speed is 94 you def want regular don't even look at stiff, you'll regret it.

That is not necessarily true. Graphite Design (who make the YS-6+, a stock shaft in last years Titleists), quotes a swing speed of 91-100 as being suitable for stiff in quite a few of their shafts.

And many shafts made for Titleist, Wilson etc, are softer than the equivalent original version. Made for Titleist Voodoo is a good example of this.

Re: teslar

I use a graphite design Pershing 91-100 rates as a regular.Best bet as always swing the damn things and see what is best for you.

I have had my ball speed and club head speed measured with the club speed being 100.4 mph and the ball speed being 122.4 and i use a stiff in my driver and swing with a moderate rhythm and usually (touch wood) get good results

Hope this helps

Wow !

You sure those numbers are correct?

What were you hitting, a rock?

Well depends do you class a srixion AD333 a rock?

The difference between my 6i and Driver speeds was 14mph.

5 does sound too little, unless you put more effort into the irons maybe?

I swing fast(ish) but have never been a huge hitter primalrily because of swing flaws. However by switching from regular steel (R300) to a light graphite on my tour burner I'm not only about 5 yards per club longer but I hit it on a better trajectory and my grouping is better.

Its horses for courses but speed shouldn't be the overriding contributory factor

Thanks for all of the feedback from everyone.

My thoughts are that "Regular" in the Ping G15 series is the way to go.

So...

Going back to the shopt today to purchase my lovely new Ping G15 10.5 degree regular shaf driver.

Anyone want to buy my G10 ?

Will post a review of the G15 later tonight as i'm off to play a nice track this afternoon.

Hi,
If your swing speed is only 94 miles per hour with a driver you should stick with the regular you can usually take off up to 20 miles per hour I think for your irons i hit my driver 114-120 MPH and my irons around the 90-95 MPH and i use a upgraded stiff shaft in my driver and Project 6.0's in my Irons. A general rule for a bad shot caused by the wrong flex would be right if it is too flexable and left if is too stiff.

I was told that too stiff a shaft will cause a low right flight path!
