Had my swing speed measured today !!!

The difference between my 6i and Driver speeds was 14mph.

5 does sound too little, unless you put more effort into the irons maybe?

6 iron speed is usually about 85% of driver speed.

Didnt realise this , i've been reading all these posts and wondering what was going on with my ganme. I got fitted for my irons and my swing speed using a 6 iron was 98 mph which the pro said was a stiff shaft. Fair enough i thought , but reading all these posts about 100+ mph swings and needing reg shafts between 90-100 got me worried as the clubs i use are superb and have a lovely trajectory/flight.

I can now put my mind at rest and go work out my driver swing speed. I know nothing about shaft technology and all that stuff , I've only ever owned 2 sets of clubs all my golfing life.

ps based on 98 iron speed my driver speed is 115 mph , no idea what that equates to and dont really care tbh

Hi,
If your swing speed is only 94 miles per hour with a driver you should stick with the regular you can usually take off up to 20 miles per hour I think for your irons i hit my driver 114-120 MPH and my irons around the 90-95 MPH and i use a upgraded stiff shaft in my driver and Project 6.0's in my Irons. A general rule for a bad shot caused by the wrong flex would be right if it is too flexable and left if is too stiff.

I was told that too stiff a shaft will cause a low right flight path!

which is exactly what I was doing yesterday with a stiff 10.5* G5. less dispersion than the r7 though so I guess I've got to try out a load of drivers - life's tough isn't it?

I have had my ball speed and club head speed measured with the club speed being 100.4 mph and the ball speed being 122.4 and i use a stiff in my driver
Hmmm, something definitely not right there. I got my swing speed measured a long time ago, and it varied between 95 and 103 mph with the driver. Ball speed was around 140 to 155 mph tops. As others have said, ball speed is going to be around 1.5 times the clubhead speed, so you should see the ball going at nearer 150 mph.

not necessarily. I was told that 1.5 is the optimum, at least for we journeymen (pro's are probably higher). If you're not hitting through the ball/getting the weight transfer right then you could have a swing like a threshing machine and not get the ball away.

Typically if the club is too stiff, you can't get it back to impact and will block/slice it, too flexible and it goes left/hooky. Sometimes players know the club is too stiff and get a bit handsy, but that is probably the less likely outcome.

Hi,
Maybe i was mis informed i was told by a pro i think that if the shaft is too flexiable the head will get left behind if you swing it to hard causing a slice if it is too stiff it dosen't open enough and causes the low right one. The 1.5 smash factor would be what a pro or top amature would be acheiving for a average handicapper or ball striker 1.4 would be good 1.45 very good.
