Had a 10 on my card this morning!

For the record, we were being held up by a group from the English Golf Union who were reassessing the course for SSS and Slope Rating, whenever the latter comes in. After about 5 holes they called us through. We started at the 11th hole BTW, and this was the only blob I had in the round. I would have picked up if I was actually delaying play, but I wasn't. As it was only the 2nd hole I played on an away course, I was trying to get a feel for the greens, which is why I putted out! :)

Bah that old cheggar. 😁👍

gutted, just had a look on my scores and I shot a 10 on a par four. I know I know I deserve a flogging.

Regular occurrence in my game, I just pick up now when I can't score like last Friday for example I had bogey, bogey, bogey followed by a complete lash up on the 4th/par5 where I had 6 before I even got to the green so I picked up !...

Ps, but I have got my drive back, 455 off the white knockers on the 1st saw me about 20-30yds short of the 150's !...

It was quite interesting watching the ladies and gents from the EGU reassessing the course. They were measuring all sorts of distances and widths of fairways with a surveyors wheel and drawing diagrams of the course. Weren't actually playing any shots though. I sort of assumed that a scratch golfer would come out and play the course?

This forum is getting unreadable. Such a shame as it's the same people ruining posts.

He has paid his green fee, so as long as isn't holding people up he is entitled to play out.

People jumping to conclusions, making accusations without facts, then taking threads off track, hammering on the same point relentlessly and pursuing personal agendas is sucking the fun out me, and I assume a lot of others, which is a real shame as there's some great content on here.

The mods (who do a fantastic job btw) and posters should really begin to look at how to get this forum back on track - IMO it's getting so much worse in recent weeks for some reason.

Back to the OP, Delc, unlucky pal, happens to the best of us! Good scoring on the rest though!

Was trying to think of way to put it but kept resorting to swearing. Well said.

Try posting on the (Liverpool) football thread!! :o

I made a very early decision to never read that thread, let alone post!

Happy for whatever to happen in OOB as long as it's within the rules and not personal. It's mainly the lounge that's going down the pan.

Superb post. Absolutely spot on. Getting seriously sick of the same old people taking threads off track and arguing the most dull points over and over.

Only point I'd take issue with there is putting it on the mods who are all unpaid volunteers, but otherwise absolutely spot on, the pleasure is disappearing and it's the same people every time. Must make them really proud.

IT seems to me that every thread just has to have the fun sucked out of it

Must be one of the most quoted & supported posts for the size of thread & why not, the silly behaviour is relentless sometimes

Bad luck Del, I had a card wrecking 9 on Saturday on a par 5 but got 34 points

& yes I putted out for 9 despite being in a stableford comp because I was also trying to get a strokeplay PB as well (& had two birdies and a couple of pars on the card already) and there was still hope at that point, but a six on the next par 4 put paid to that goal and I picked up after that if I couldn't get points... It's all about context & circumstance folks!

I agree, they do a thankless task and do it very well. On this forum I enjoy the fact none of them seem to have power trips, and actively post with strong opinions. Which is why I also said that posters need to take responsibility.

I just don't know how else the childishness can't be stopped.

I do realise the irony of me taking this post off at a huge tangent! If mods want to delete these rants, move to a new separate post or area etc that's fine by me! It just got to the point where I either said something or signed out for good (well, except stalking the FS section for bargains!!)

Just to clarify a few things

1. I asked Delc a question - that's all nothing else , a topical question in the current climate of golf and something that I know is part of the R & A push on pace of play and indeed pace of play something that was highlighted recently by GM - I didn't accuse Delc of anything

2. I then responded to Chrisd point about - wanting to play a full round regardless which is it seems what players want to do and I just highlighted the above points mainly because slow play and people being held up spoiled a number of people's enjoyment at a recent forum.

3. My posts were in generic reply to what Chrisd was saying as opposed to what Delc said.

To clarify for you Phil.

I, and I know of several others, no longer use the forum as much because of you draining the life out of pretty much every thread.

Resist the urge.

Del

Am I right in thinking you played essendons old course ?, that would make the par 3 12th your finishing hole, if so always happy to hit that green, so well played on nearest the pin. Essendons par 5's always look simple enough but a few have bitten me on the bum before. Got to be happy with 33 points. :thup:p
