Got my handicap through, but...

I was always under the impression, perhaps wrongly that the handicap was worked out as follows.
add the three cards to the par of the course.
Divide this by 4, then take the par away. The figure left is your handicap.
In your case, 103 +99+93+70=365÷4=91.25-70= 21.25

See the link in post #7

I always assumed you should always be near your handicap.

How many rounds, say out of 10, do people play to their handicap?

3-4 comps round in buffer

No idea, came from my distant past as a member of Old Padeswood, some 25 years ago. probably bar talk.
Just for clarity, can you tell me exactly the correct process?

1. Submit a minimum of 3 cards on a measured course marked by someone acceptable to your committee.
2. Reduce all higher scores to 2 over par.
3. Take the best resulting card.
4. Subtract the Standard Scratch Score.
5. Answer is the handicap unless the committee wants to do something different.

Many thanks. Seems a bit harsh though.

I may have to ask the HC sec then. Never really looked into exactly how the handicap system works as it is my 1st year of having a handicap.

Having actually sat and thought about it, it does seem the only fair way to do it. Why should you be able to win a competition with an "average" round.
All these years with a misconception.
