Played Strathmore seniors open today - my first ever seniors event - though I could have played in this one five years ago (over 50s) - I'm up point 1 after poor first nine and ok back nine

Partnered by two guys from. Blairgowrie (5 & 6 hcp) who each had a good nine - one was level par back nine.

Cold, wet but enjoyed it - hit a wedge to 2 feet to be nearest pin on the short par 3 (and ended up with a 3)

Got home - changed and out to play in captain v vice captain - soaked - dried off and into clubhouse for free food and a free beer

Checked phone and noticed I had missed call and a voicemail - went outside to check it and when a girls voice said "hi David Strathmore golf course here" I thought excellent - I've got a nearest the hole prize

But it was not to be - she told me I'd won first prize in the raffle - which I think is a fourball and lunch at any time

Not bad for a ten-twelve pound entry fee and a quid for a raffle ticket

Had worse days

I liked it - couple of cracking holes

Just phoned up and raffle prize is 36 holes for a fourball with two buggies and catering

In less good news I got beaten on my 2 foot nearest pin - guys shot hit the nearest pin marker and ended up two inches from hole - he told pro it was heading for back of green until it hit the marker

Congrats. Those sort of days where everything comes up your way are always great. Enjoy the freebie round

Cheers Homer - got even luckier on Saturday afternoon when i got to photograph my football team go top of the league when our rivals unexpectedly lost - the cheers for goals going in against them were louder than the cheers for our goals.

So on Saturday I'm hopefully taking pictures of a guy I've know for getting on for 20 years lifting a trophy and the prospect of being back in the top league next season.

Golf will very much take a back seat for the rest of this week - but on the bright side for my golf next weekend will (hopefully - There's another three weeks of play offs if we blow it) mark the end of my shooting of professional football for the season which will give me more time for golf.

Real Carlsberg weekend
