Ditto.

My house is hidden behind a massive hedge, so you won't see much of it any way. We don't have any curtains, so if people want to look in, I don't care. If my car is in the drive, all anyone will see is a big green Merc, hardly exciting. If anyone knows me, they will know it is my house, and my car, but then they know my house and car anyway. If they don't know me, then how will they know it is my house? Why would they care?

If they can see your number plate could they duplicate it? If so, there might be a few tickets coming your way Murph.

In theory it should be blurred out. However, if someone wanted to clone my car, they could do it any day of the week, without having to look at Google street. All my info is already on the web some where, you just need to know where to look.

My house is on there however the car number plates are blanked out, and the curtains are closed so they can't see bugger all anyway.

Plus I don't see what the issue is as what they are putting up is accessible to everyone of us anyway as I could walk down any one of your streets and see the outside of your house if I really wanted to (obviously I would need to know where to look but people would also need to know this to see it on goggle maps) It isn't as if they are putting up something secretive that isn't visible to the public eye anyway. If anything google earth aerial images violates this more as not everyone could gain an aerial plan of someone's garden / neighborhood etc.

People are doing things these days, because they can do them. It's the reason why we have TV cameras inside snooker pockets when all we really want the TV presentation to do is give us the very best seat in the house. There's no public demand for them.

TBH, camera's in snooker pockets is the only reason I watch the sport.

At last, an advantage to living in a flat. They might get the block but they have no numbers and a range of cars (and plates) to choose from.

Still, I'm with A_F on this one. There is no earthly reason for doing this other than that they can, and no benefit other than to those seeking to add to the data that they already have on you.

I think if a property is blanked out it would cause more interest for any unsavoury characters who might visit the site. I think they might be thinking "There is a reason for taking it off, I'll have a closer look." :(

Exactly. I've also seen it being called a burglars charter. LOL! How exactly? Do these people realise it's a pic, and not a constantly changing web cam that will let anyone know if you are in or out? Paranoia imo.

CCCCOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLL.... or is it?

I AM ON GOOGLE STREET VIEW!

We were having a laugh at work about the boss being caught outside smoking a fag and then i said "i wonder if it's 3 o'clock and they caught me going to the shop?". So, we looked about a bit and hey presto, i'm on there quite close up from 3 or 4 different angles!

You need to zoom in on Leith in Edinburgh, then the corner of Elbe Street and Mitchell Street and i've got a blue and white striped polo top on. (not that i expect anyone to be interested!)

I'm not bothered by it, but when the boss sees her pic, me thinks she is going to go nuts! he he.

Exactly.

Also, the only valid use that I can think of is it is an additional tool when you come to sell your house, potential buyers can have a look at the area before they even arrive. Of course in some cases that may not be so good :D

I think its a good idea, the images are months out of date so to me they loose a little of their relevancy to thieves. I think its great that you can type in a postcode and see the surrounding area, In my job I sometimes do site calls and finding the place sometimes can be a pain if its not well signed.
I dont see what the problem is really, what a car can see from the street is public knowledge anyway.

I spotted you Slugger. You're only a couple of hundred yards from my flat. Fortunately I'm top floor so no-one can see in the windows!

I see it having advantages and disadvantages. At the moment I'm studying for my taxi licence in Edinburgh do it's a positive boon in visualising certain streets. I can see it having nefarious uses too, though, but what hasn't?

I think it's a useful option, especially if you are planning on going somewhere you haven't been before. You can drop down to street level and get good bearings and landmarks to look for as you get there.

Actually passed a Google car last night as it was working in Pangbourne.

Found streetview by accident a month or so ago when looking at Google maps for my inlaws place in Japan. Can see their house quite clearly, as could see my old flat in Tokyo. Quite impressive really.
