Am I the only strange person who does not enjoy playing golf in blazing sun. Don’t get me wrong up to 18 deg is great beyond that I just don’t enjoy it the same as when the weather is OK.

For a round in the sun I need factor 40 - anything less and I just burn - lots.
I need at least 2 litres of water or I am totally drained by the end.
I don’t like the continual sweating matched with greasy sun cream hands.
I don’t like the hard greens and big bounces.
I would like to be able to putt without running the ball 10 yards past the hole.
I like to see which rough my ball ends up in - and hate getting blinded by the sun, I hate not having a clue where to start looking.
I don’t like rock hard fairways that you break clubs on if you take a divot.

I know it may be strange to most of you but I love golf when the course is a bit softer, when the temp is up to 18deg, no precipitation, and the greens are a bit slower.

Does anyone else agree? Perhaps I was born in Northern Ireland for a reason. :D

:D

I agree Ken, up to 20 c is ok, after that its sweating, swollen feet, chafing, fogged up glasses, tiredness etc.
Played yesterday and it was very humid, found it tiring.
I don't really understand folks going off to hot places in our summer to play golf, would seem like torture to me to play in 30 degrees or whatever. I do understand going to Spain/Florida etc in winter of course.

Sorry, but I love it when it is hot. The hard fast greens sort out the men from the boys, drives run forever (so do 5 irons, about 200 yards last night) not being burdened with 15 jumpers, etc makes a change too.

The low sun makes you keep your head down, concentrate and nail it down the middle.

I don't need sun tan cream, as I don't burn, or a hat as I have hair. I don't sweat much as I am fit.

Bring it on. I love it.

Nah. You're not strange at all.

I'd agree with you. Anything above 18 or so and I struggle. I spend days like today hidden under a wide brimmed hat, I squint with both eyes, which are icthing like mad due to hayfever. I daren't look for balls in the long grass as that sets me off a treat. I hate being all hot and bothered, which is why I had to come back from my job in the Med.

I'll avoid playing in afternoon if possible, (though that's not always possible). I don't look good in shorts so I wear trousers. And so on.

I like the British mediocre weather. It suits me fine. I just don't like the heat.

You are not alone.

I'm with you all the way brother!!!

I played with vig in Sheffield yesterday and the sun & humidity was just awful, I was sweating like a paedophile in a kindergarten

No, its nice when the weather is this hot to sit in a beer garden somewhere kicking back, but its not so enjoyable for golfing....having said that, i'll play in any weather just so long as i'm playing!

I'd rather play in 35 degree heat than not play at all.

The thing I found most hard about it was trying to dry my un-gloved hand and keep it dry.

I love the sun, don't mind the heat. It is the humidity that does me in.

Oh, and remember to put PLENTY of fluids in your bag.

I would rather have been out on Saturday in the blazing sun than stuck at home with tonsillitis which is how I spent my weekend.

I don't like it too hot when I play over here. But love playing in the Algarve or Spain in the sunshine.
It's a different kind of heat over there, a drier heat, not so oppressive (sp?) or humid.
I played at Breadsall Priory one Summer, corporate day 36 holes. It was soooo bloody hot, I only played the morning round. Couldn't be arsed to go out in the afternoon, I caddied for my brother instead. Barefoot.
That was nice. Prickly, but nice

Just put your shorts on and get on with it

I love this weather, and agree with Murphthemog, drives go further, as do the long irons or hybrid. Just take a couple of bottles of water with you, get on with your game, then go for a couple of cold ones after your round.

Love playing in these warm sunny conditions.
Better than playing in december in thermals, jumpers and waterproofs battling a gale force wind driving the horizontal rain right through you.

I love it although the harder fairways do make it easier for the higher handicappers as the course plays much shorter but its my only complaint. I love the sun on my back and make sure I have suncream on my neck and arms and a hat on my bald bonce and I'm away.

I just love the sun and playing golf in it! I always think back to the long winter months of wind and rain blowing in your face and being dressed like a Mitchelin man.
I wear a cap and drink plenty - oh, and my glove goes on on the first tee and comes off on the 18th, and both hands are the same colour :D

Golfmmad.

i love it when its hot and sunny - roughly 2 hours a year here in NI lol My course is never really rock hard anyway
