Good ideas from foreign countries

Germany adopted a variation of this from East Germany at the reunion.

On selected crossings is a green arrow attached to the traffic lights. That means that at red you treat it as a stop sign, and if it is save you can turn in.

So you have the same as in the US, but the local authorities declare the crossings where it is save to do so. On difficult ones they just don't put the arrow and at red you can't go.

The Americans put up a "No Right Turn on Red" sign for the ones you can't do it at.

Best I have heard sat nav in emergency vehicles turns all traffic lights to green when they are 500yds from them to let traffic move out of way.
The lights have a blue light on them to let drivers know a emergency is behind them .
It was only a trial don't know if it's been implemented.

No thanks, spoils all the fun ;)

Could do worse than the American system of relaxing the strength of certain medicines that can be bought over the counter, thus allowing people to self-treat some minor illnesses and reducing pressure on the NHS, both doctors appointments & prescription costs.

Driving on the right hand side of the road is so much more common in other countries that we should introduce it here. We could phase it in gradually so we start with lorries and buses and then other vehicles six months later.

I live very close to the ferry port in Poole, I sometimes think this rule has already been introduced

When approaching traffic lights in Germany they often have a box that gives the advisory speed based on how long it will be until the lights change. This lets you know if it's OK to keep going or to prepare to stop.

I always wonder if right hand drive cars are more expensive than left hand drive? They only produce a fraction of the numbers, so by changing to left hand, would cars get cheaper?

From places I've lived in :

Don't be fat
Don't drop litter
Stand up to give old people a seat on the the train, tram, bus
Don't swear and act like a-holes and give your country a bad name when abroad
Go to the football to watch the football
Ditch benefits for people who can work
Look after your old family members
Play off whatever tees you want
Pay for your drinks when you leave, not as you order
Accept that men with younger women is how it should be
Don't look down on hookers, they're human too
Take 25% off the price of petrol
Don't indulge kids so much
Equality works both ways
Tell people when they're being anti social
Don't be anti social
Speak other languages
Screw political correctness
Erase the concept of "being offended"
Lynch paedos in public
Use the death penalty liberally

Just for starters ☺

Are you standing as an MP at the forthcoming election? If so, I'd vote for you!! :D

I'd vote for you too, especially like the ones I've highlighted.
Spot on Three .

Have an integrated transport system that is run for the benefit of passengers, not the shareholders of the privatised disjointed companies involved. Treat teachers and the education system with respect and so an investment in the future of society, not a political play thing. Treat visitors at golf clubs with respect and courtesy and not a necessary evil. Turn left on red lights.

Parts of the motorway where there is no speed limit. Or just change the name of our motorways to autobahns. I want to check the maximum speed of my car without a speeding fine.

A minor one, but being gluten intolerant it is a bit of a minefield knowing what foods have or have not. Whilst in Lanzarote last year on hols, the supermarkets easily identify this by having a big black box around the ticket price on the shelving. Very easy to spot.

Oh, and I forgot the mandatory carrying of official ID.

Why we shouldn't is beyond me.

A friend of mine was covering some kind of civil liberties event where they were protesting about having to have national ID cards. And he and a colleague were thrown out for not having official badges for the event on display. The irony was just lost on the organisers.

Because the cost of implementing and administering it would be horrendous together with no thought out reason why we should?
ID should be mandatory. I have no idea how the police do their job here. People can just plain lie to them about who they are.

You need to be a able to prove who you are and that you have the right to be here.

I NEVER leave home without ID. Been questioned by police twice as a witness and proof of name and address was simple as.

If someone has a D/L or passport they wouldn't need to get a national ID as they already have an acceptable form.
