Whilst stuck at some traffic lights the other day I was thinking what a good idea it would be if we adopted the rule used in most US states that you can turn right (left in our case before all the pedants have a field day!) at a red traffic light if safe to do so.

Any other good ideas we could start a campaign to introduce? :D

Harder to do but in Spain you can not turn across traffic on a busy road, ie in this country you can drive on the A1 and turn right. Hugely dangerous. The Spanish system means you have to come off a slip road and loop around. Less points to come off than here but much safer. There are deaths every year in Northumberland down to this.

And its flippin' confusing for us Brits at first. But you're right, the more considered version of turning across traffic from a main road into a minor road, and viki verki, is so much safer.

I like it that in China you can drive on the wrong side of the road, against the traffic flow. I think it has already been introduced in north London though.

From places I've lived in :

Don't be fat
Don't drop litter
Stand up to give old people a seat on the the train, tram, bus
Don't swear and act like a-holes and give your country a bad name when abroad
Go to the football to watch the football
Ditch benefits for people who can work
Look after your old family members
Play off whatever tees you want
Pay for your drinks when you leave, not as you order
Accept that men with younger women is how it should be
Don't look down on hookers, they're human too
Take 25% off the price of petrol
Don't indulge kids so much
Equality works both ways
Tell people when they're being anti social
Don't be anti social
Speak other languages
Screw political correctness
Erase the concept of "being offended"
Lynch paedos in public
Use the death penalty liberally

Just for starters ☺

If you go to another country and it costs ten dollars to enter and ten to get out. Anyone from said country pays the same to come to this country.
Going to Vietnam, you have to pay nigh on £100 to get in, no probs. Charge the Vietnamese the same to come into this country.

Copy Singapore and ban chewing gum, filthy stuff that serves no purpose and costs a fortune to clean up off our streets as many users seem to think its fine to gob it out instead of finding a bin or swallowing it.

We already do - quite a fair bit, in some cases!

Germany adopted a variation of this from East Germany at the reunion.

On selected crossings is a green arrow attached to the traffic lights. That means that at red you treat it as a stop sign, and if it is save you can turn in.

So you have the same as in the US, but the local authorities declare the crossings where it is save to do so. On difficult ones they just don't put the arrow and at red you can't go.

Are you standing as an MP at the forthcoming election? If so, I'd vote for you!! :D

Best I have heard sat nav in emergency vehicles turns all traffic lights to green when they are 500yds from them to let traffic move out of way.
The lights have a blue light on them to let drivers know a emergency is behind them .
It was only a trial don't know if it's been implemented.

Most other Western countries seem to do things better than we do, particularly since the Tory Government introduced its Austerity plan, so it shouldn't be difficult to learn from them! 😀
