How is everyone doing on the golf injury front? And any tips on how to manage the inevitable tweaks during the cold weather?

My first injury came in November 2023 when I strained a Rhomboid (sleeping on a sofa after a heavy night), since then it has been something of a downhill spiral. Last 6 months I've had 3 different injuries, Rhomboid strain, intercostal strain, and something in the lumbar region. Had my first Chiro session recently and was surprised he didn't jam a microphone near my back to get some hits on Youtube because it sounded like someone chewing on raw spaghetti.

Starting to get a little on the concerning side as I'm only in my early 30s, I've had a good look at my swing mechanics with my coach to see if this could be contributing but my physio is convinced it's down to weak postural core muscles as a result of a lot of rugby and weight lifting at a younger age.

I've been fortunate to only have a couple of very minor, short-term back issues - were talking a bit of pain for less than a week....
My issues are with knees, ankles and elbows....all shot to pieces...I wear a brace on each knee and one on my left elbow...
I broke my right ankle very badly in 2004 and only have 65-70% movement in it - left ankle is the only bit that's OK.......
Honestly can't remember playing golf in the last 25 years when there hasn't been something hurting......
I just get used to it....

I have a good tip.....don't fall from a loft hatch and crack 3 vertebrae 2 of which are also compressed.:)
I normally see a sports physio once a month to help ease the muscles which do cause my back pain (all through work). I'm 59 now and fully accept I will continue to have back pain in varying degrees through to my final moment. My return to golf is imminent.
Life is a once only event.:)

Glad you're recovering!

Ouch! Wishing you the best with the ongoing recovery....

My first one was almost immediately after I turned 30, everything seemed to be made out of rubber up until that point 😂

Did my back working when I was 19. Did even more to it when 30.
Now the physio sessions unlock it and allow me to keep working. Ive already seen him twice since I had my fall, and the impreovement has been amazing each time.
I would say that all to often we put things off when it comes to "non mainstream healthcare". I have had accupuncture and mixed it with elctrotherapy, chiropractor and sports p[hysio with deep tissue massages.
As good as the NHS is (in general), when it comes to complementary health work they are well behind the curve so you do have to take your own steps to help your body.
Oh yes, I also have shot knee cartilege's again through work, but I will live with the pain as a new knee is only good for 10 years and no kneeling on it allowed after. Sod that thankyou very much:)

7 months without playing (April - Oct)
Back to playing but with this weather it is an occasional game here and there.

Still willing to swing full out, very much more of a punch type stroke.

On the handicap front 6 out of my counting scores come from Mar 2023 so my handicap is well on the upwards trend.

My injuries in the main come from a displaced leg and a slight spine fracture caused when hit by a car as a pedestrian at the age of 18 and standing on my left foot playing squash in my 20s.

When it comes to playing in the cold keeping warm is my priority not swinging well.

Golf injuries are no joke, especially in the cold. I've found that really warming up and stretching before playing makes a big difference. Also, maybe consider some core strengthening exercises to support your back.

Have a TFCC injury atm.
Seeing doc for arthritis in my fingers tomorrow.
Going to Jumbomax grips soon as they arrive .
So might get back to 4 handicap but might be 12 depending how I adapt to them 😳

That explains everything 😀

Ive had a back spasm, torn an intercostal twice, had tennis and golfers Elbow. none of those really stopped me playing to start with. my two cycling injury's are what are doing that. ruptured ACL kept me from playing for at least 5 months now Carpel tunnel in both my wrists from vibrations on my gravel bike. not played now since end of July.

I misread the title and was hoping for some tales of carnage on the course, but alas...

I ‘fell’ off a kerb stone on 13th tee area after hooking a shot into water and going to bag for another ball and popped my ankle out something rotten. Ambulance job to get it seen to cos I couldn’t drive and the rest of the 4ball refused to stop their round

Touch wood but I've not had any serious golf injuries yet. My worst injuries were all from football - sprained ankles, damaged heel, dodgy knees. Another thing that kept me from playing in the last few years was when I sliced my finger open on a tin can. 😄 But I don't think I've sustained anything major through the act of playing golf - yet. I think my swing is too slow to do any damage.

In December 2023 we were playing in Fuerteventura when our buggy hit a bump in the fairway. My wife ended up in Spanish A&E with excruciating back/leg/foot pain. Spent the next three months with severe sciatica. Had an MRI and saw two different consultants. Her foot still isn't right, 15 months later. Has just been signed off by the physio.

Luckily she was driving the buggy, otherwise I would have been in the doghouse forever!

PS. We are back in Fuerteventura now, first time since the injury. I am definitely not driving the buggy - can't risk being responsible for a recurrence!

Wise man, self preservation 😂

How on earth did you play with a torn intercostal? I could hardly take a full breath in let alone swing a golf club when I did mine.....
