Having recently played in a county Div 4 competition, came 32nd out of 75 with 31 points, which I'm quite pleased with considering I had two blobs. Anyway the stats for the comp show just how far 16-28 handicap golfers are away from the pro's.

Out of 75 golfers only 8 birdies were made, or to put it another way 8 birdies (0.6%) out of 1350 holes played and of those 1350 holes there were only 217 pars (16%) the rest obviously bogeys (528 / 39%), doubles 358 / 27%), worse (70 / 5%) or no returns (169 / 12%)

Finally a thread to post my boring stats on :D from the last 8 rounds

Fir 41 %
Gir 55 %
Birdies 5.9 %
Pars 42.96 %
Bogeys 34.8 %
doubles 11 %
triples 4 %

I play with my head and my heart and until my head starts taking control for 18 holes my heart will continue to try the miraculous shot and mess up on 3-4 holes😃.
We mid to high handicappers will get there one day!

There was an article somewhere about statistics, and it was really interesting. It showed you pretty much every relevant statistic, such as driving distance, FIR, GIR, number of putts per round, etc, and did this for every handicap. For example, you could find that your driving distance is the same as a 10-handicapper, your FIR same as a 15-handicapper, your GIR same as a 12-handicapper, and your putts per round the same as a 20-handicapper. Obviously, in this case, your best thing to work on would be putting, in order to improve the chances of a handicap cut. It was an interesting read, but difficult to put into context, unless you take stats for as many rounds as possible to get a good average, as basing it on one round wouldn't be very accurate.

This made me have a look at my figures since I joined a club in June and they are not even as good as above, in 21 rounds (378 holes) I have 2 birdies (0.52%) and 38 pars (10.05%)

But the glass is half empty, what you should be saying is I've had 2 birdies and 38 pars which is great as I don't need either of those things to play to my handicap or to get it cut. :fore:
