If you go on a golf vacation. what is your favourite destinations/country and do you arrange all by yourself or do you use a travel agency for your golfvacation

Happy Hallowen from sweden

I love the US, but would normally book myself, as it's often when I'm on hols with the wife, rather than a group of golfers.

I hear good things about Turkey, but Spain and Portugal have become a little too expensive in recent years. I believe this is beginning to change however.

My favourite destination is Myrtle Beach in South Carolina.
I have been a number of times and always arranged it myself (or at least booked flights/accomodation and golf seperately).

I would definitely keep the golf booking seperate, In my experience there have been good deals booking flights and accomodation together and then organising the golf yourself.

Very good golf deals can be had at very short notice (ie within 24 hours) and there is dedicated golf desks in the big golf shops out there offering some really good deals.

12 of us go every year in Spring - any time from late March to early May. We started off doing Spain and Portugal several years ago but have done Turkey for the last 4 years - superb hotels and courses. We use a Turkish company which has a UK representative.

Around sixteen of us from around Europe do a tour at the end of May each year. We have stuck to the UK for a number of years and this year did a number of courses around the Wirral which was good. Considering Marrakech next year.

I also go to Myrtle Beach and the best thing is, Merv goes in April then comes back and tells me all the best courses to play when I go in October :D

When I played the Eden course Gordon, I mentioned that I knew Merv but didn't get any discount.:(In fact the trophy was away being engraved so didn't even get to see it. The base looked nice though:whistle:

Is that what they told you? I heard it's been stolen, believed to now be in a flat in Bournemouth ;)

Ok.... I guess go to scandinavia for golf vacation isnt the first choice and not the second either ...-:) , We prefer to spend golf vacation in UK and to play linksgolf,,,,greenfee is rather expensive though...

I've played in Barbados, Tenerife and Gran Canaria but never on golf holiday, just regular holidays where I've taken my clubs along.
I'd love to a golf holiday. I've heard a lot of good stuff about Belek in Turkey. Id go anywhere though if I could get a group of mates up for it.

Where in the UK do you play and what kind of green fee do you pay.
We have played links only in England and Ireland,,,we try to choose courses where greenfee isnt so high, we also try to díscuss with clubs if discount is possible if playing more then one time at there course.. and so far discounts have been given... last trip we played 7 times with greenfees and that take a rather large share of the travelling budget....

we have been to Belek twice as an all inclusive package....the courses is well maintained and we are really satisfied with the packages and they arent so expensive.... We have been 4 couples going there in early April,, But next year we will choose England for our golfvacations

I've played nearly all the courses in belek, fabulous place if your looking for golf, luxury hotels, relaxation, good weather and a few beers, if your looking for rowdy nightlife, like villamoura/costa del sol then Turkey isn't for you.
I've also played in myrtle beach and it was great but personally I don't see what it has over Spain/Portugal/turkey. And it's a LONG flight!

Another vote here for Belek. Haven't done a 100% golf trip but took HID and the little 'un for past 3 years. I get plenty of golf in though. Booked for 2014 the day after we returned thus year. Next year my golfing buddy is bringing his family at the same time. Everyone's a winner:clap:

I think MB offers great value for money compared to places like Spain and Portugal where green fees can be very expensive. You can go for two weeks peak season and play 9 or 10 rounds of golf on great courses for less than £2k per person which includes flights, hotel, hire car and green fees. A lot of the courses offer deals that include food and drinks so you don't need to spend a lot of extra cash when you get there. I think something similar in Spain/Portugal would probably cost you more.

In May i go to belek, 7 nights ultra all inclusive with 5 rounds, 4.5 hour flight . Once your there the courses are literally on your doorstep, I stay at Cornelia diamond which is awesome and the further course in belek is no further than 25 mins away from here All my transfers a included so no need to drive. Costs me circa 1k.

As myrtle beach was part of a bigger trip I can't really put a price on it individually, but off the top of my head it cost me £600 for flights and a 5 night stay at grand dunes with 4 rounds of golf was around £500. This was for bed and breakfast only. Plus car hire and gas. It was a 12 hour flight as I couldn't fly direct from Glasgow. I drove nearly 45 mins to the golf courses. The courses were IMO good, very good and I really enjoyed them but they weren't any better than the ones in Turkey. I've no doubt these prices will vary for most people but those were roughly mine. So horses for courses turkeys much better value for money for me.

I agree Spain/Portugal wouldn't give you the same value as myrtle beach though. But the flights a pain in the bum.

For me, the big attraction of MB is the huge choice of courses. In 4 trips out there, I've played about 25-30 different courses. I understand what you are saying about Turkey, it offers the best value in Europe by quite some margin but from what I can see, the inclusive packages all seem to be based one 1 hotel's courses so you are limited to only a couple of courses unless you fork out for additional green fees.

Most big hotels are "attached" to 2 courses, most holiday deals will include these 2 in your package, as a guest of the hotel you will get roughly 20 euros off the price of a round compared to a non resident. I always play 4/5 different courses each time I go out which is included in my 1k price, if I only wanted to play the hotels courses it would be slightly cheaper but not much. If you were to be a non resident and just going for a game the fees would be dearer than what you would pay in MB.
