Golf Things That Gladden The Heart

If anyone wants to ‘feel better’ about their golfing level, after reading their percentages, don’t forget this % is of people who have handicaps and are members….not a % of those who you may find on a golf course / who call themselves golfers

It seems reasonable to assume that members of golf clubs are generally better than those who play only occasionally as green fee golfers - but don’t play it enough / love it enough to prioritise it enough to join a club and get a handicap

I read somewhere that if you have a handicap of 18 that puts you in the top 10% of golfers worldwide.

What!!
We have 20 players off 0.0 or better, and 6.1 is around 91st best player at the club.

At Willow Valley we have one off a plus handicap (+3.5). He's also a member at Huddersfield where they have 20 off 0.0 or less, the lowest being a female off +5.8 and the lowest male off +5.1

As Huddersfield is the boys home club that's where his percentages show up - top 10% in Yorkshire, top 11% in the country but only the top 27% in the club. They do attract a lot of quality players, the course is the best around here.

This may be true - but I still made a 10 up the 18th hole of the medal yesterday.

I don’t think I’ve ever made a 10 before, it’s a genuine first I think, nor was I even playing badly… Hence my post is in this thread.

You just have to laugh really. I was in a fairway bunker after 2 shots, and I hit 2 out of bounds (long)… Before I could even contemplate what had happened, I was putting for 10…. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Playing well, decent score but not going to win the medal, so you chuck in a 10 on the 18th to keep the handicap up. What a bandit 🤣

I’m joking of course, but there are people who think like this.

Did not play today because of my wrist, so I went up to the course for a natter with the lads and a bit of a golf ball hunt. The nettles were 6ft high. Whilst ambling through the woods a ruddy great big Deer ran off about 20ft in front of me. It was the first time I have seen big deer on the course. I have seen the small monkjack deer a few times. After the initial shock, I was chuffed to bits to see it.
Oh ah found quite a few balls I could use, the most popular found Pro V1/X balls. 😁👍

I’m playing St Enodoc tomorrow 😍

Very excited as my opportunities now for playing ‘treat’ courses are much reduced…

After tomorrow it’s only St George’s Hill and Brancaster to play for me to have ticked off England’s Top 20.

Following the awful weather Monday and especially Tuesday, it’s been good today in Cornwall and should be reasonable tomorrow🙏🏻
