Golf Things That Gladden The Heart

Must be loads of whiners in the clubhouse when higher handicappers win all the comps 🤣

Where as most high indexs would give up all prizes to hit a low index's "bad" score on a regular basis

If anyone wants to ‘feel better’ about their golfing level, after reading their percentages, don’t forget this % is of people who have handicaps and are members….not a % of those who you may find on a golf course / who call themselves golfers

It seems reasonable to assume that members of golf clubs are generally better than those who play only occasionally as green fee golfers - but don’t play it enough / love it enough to prioritise it enough to join a club and get a handicap

Jaysus I’d be scared to go on the course and humiliate myself if just about everyone around me was pinging 250+ yd fairway woods 6 feet away from far distant flags 🤣. Just checked and our place has two below scratch while being hcap 6 or better would see you around or within the top 50.
Tbh I rarely play with any of the really low guys, KenL might as he's a bit younger than me and I play most with my oldies group during the week and little or no weekend medals when the low (most younger) lads tend to play, the 3 championship qualifying rounds where they tend to all play are seeded by h'cap within each time slot so I would be playing with 2 similar to me, I did play with one guy a while ago, at the par 5 2nd I hit driver, 4 rescue, pitch and run from the fringe and 1 putt for a 4, he hit 3 wood, 6 iron and 2 putted for his birdie, he was off +2 point something, his ball striking was very impressive

Yesterday mistakenly penalised myself a shot.
Missed winning the comp by one shot.
I realised afterwards it really made very little difference as the winner has to pay the cost of getting the trophy engraved and also is responsible for arranging the next away day which is a lot of bother.

Oooh…my 7.6 puts me in top 9% at club; 12% in Surrey, 9% in England.

The club % is quite high and I think reflects the fact that recent yrs have seen a good number of old Cat 1 players and + handicap players join, plus we’ve got a good strong junior section many of whom are now low SF or +…plus a load of other members keen to improve, work on their game, and get to SFs.

Maybe 5yrs ago I’d prob have been in top 5% in club.
