Golf Things That Gladden The Heart

Playing today in a Scramble with three mates, 31C forecast, two carts booked an esky and cold beer 🍻, should be a fun day.

Played yesterday in a 2 player scramble. -2 degrees but bright sunshine. Course frozen solid but great fun judging the bounce and roll. One guy hit his ball on to a lake but was too chicken/sensible to walk out and play it. Lovely winter walk and a pot of tea in the clubhouse afterwards.

8 years ago I got fitted by Callaway for the XR16 driver...the spec came out at 9° head and Fujikura Speeder Evolution regular flex....
It was decent....lasted about 6 months as I didn't have a very good driver swing back then (despite being off 7 or 8)
Fast forward to now and I have a Paradym in the bag. I have a much, much better driver swing than back in the day....
The Paradym works OK but I'm prone to hooks and blocks.
I saw a 2nd hand XR16 on the bay with that Speeder shaft and thought ..why not....100 quid and I can sell,ot for similar if the shaft doesn't work...
Took them both up to the range yesterday and........?..
Well, the XR16 was in the bag for the 16 holes we played today...
11 fairways from 11 drives....so bloody easy to swing, great flight, great sound.......not much longer ifmit is at all but the ease of use makes it a no trainer.
I'm sure the honeymoon period will fade but for now I'm milking it for all it's got....

Took my old clubs (TM M1 irons) to CashForeClubs yesterday and got a better price than expected for them. Meant my ex demo Qi irons only cost me £450. then took my new irons to the range for the first time and hit them really well. Gained a few yards on the m1s but that was to be expected due to stronger lofts but dispersion was quite a bit tighter. Just need to hope that the new club magic isn't all rubbed off before I try them on the course :ROFLMAO:

The person who I played with today who went through his full pre-putt routine pointing the putter at the hole, visualising the putt, walked up to the point ..... and realised his ball was still in his pocket.

My scoring today was rubbish…game OK put scoring rubbish - but my 160yd 6i to 6ft on a tough par 4 and then holing the putt meant none of the rest mattered. It wasn’t the putt…and it wasn’t the birdie…it was that I hit a 6i really sweet and true, and it went the distance it should (for me). Oh happy day.

Saunton's "smashed avocado, with smoked salmon and scrambled eggs" off the breakfast menu.

The minted lamb pasties from the half way house too. Excellent.

Does that count as golf?
Sounds a bit 'fancy Dan'. Where were the bacon, the sausages? The inappropriately heavy pastie after 9 holes?

I don't recognise this as golfers food so, no, it does not count as golf 🤷

(The lamb pasties do sound nice though 😋)

Yesterday I got a little taster of what it might feel like to get a HiO, 164yrds 11th hole and hit 6Iron as well as I can, landed front of green and rolled towards the flag and ‘disappeared’ Obviously I soon find out its 12” past & sitting directly behind the pin

But from my line on the tee the ball just wasn’t visible, nada, zip, zilch absolutely nae sign of a white speck on the green and the 'is it/isn’t it' emotion going into overdrive
I’ve finished closer to a hole out in other rounds but its always been very obvious it wasn’t holed, this time though it really could’ve been...

OK so it wasn’t to be but I really want that feeling again…

Watching…and enjoying…Bones caddy for Rick Shiels over 9 holes @ Prestwick.

And talking of switching between caddying for a leftie then a rightie Bones, said that he would sometimes find himself standing at the wrong side of the tee. Aha 😀. So there is a right place to stand and a wrong place. @Doon frae Troon … HNSP we knew…👍😂

There's a right & wrong place for a caddy to stand ;)

I vaguely remember all this that you like to bring up every now and then, but surely it doesn't advocate everyone moving from one side of the tee box across to the other side when a left-handed player steps up, and then back across to the other side again if a right-hander plays?
